1967 Chevy truck Mirror Question

My 67 had the small mirror arm and mirror removed. I no longer have the mirror or never had it I should say. I have the original dark green arm. What I need to know is, what does the round mirror look like ? Is it silver or black, a center stud or offset stud like 1966. Parts book shows a silver mirror but thought black looks better on a dark green truck. Like to make it correct though. Thanks for any help on this.

Re: 1967 Chevy truck Mirror Question

I think some were black and some were silver. I wonder if there was some correlation to the wheel color? The original drivers side mirror head that I took off of my blue '67 was black. I think black looks best, but my wheels are black.

Re: 1967 Chevy truck Mirror Question

OK, so I'm still not positive what mirror should be correct so a little explanation of the truck. I bought this truck about 15 years ago and its just been sitting in my building. I bought it from an estate in Michigan. I do collect trucks and especially unique or low mile trucks. I'm in the process of putting it back the way it should be, including all the original dated rims etc. I put the 15x8s on it when I first brought it home because the original tires were a bit stiff and cracked. It had a set of stainless aftermarket mirrors at one time that I removed so that's why I'm asking. Thanks for any help.

Re: 1967 Chevy truck Mirror Question

IIRC the mirrors were silver with a center stud. Don't have the time to dig through for supporting pictures and I likely have few I'd believe as original. The parts manual shows a dark head in the breakout illustration though. Try finding some period ads and see what kind of consensus can be found.

The head/box you have is a GM service part and that only ensures it is a mirror that fits in the arm hole. Anything else matching to original is a bonus.

What I am not understanding is why the mirror head color and type are in question with other obvious modifications to the truck beyond the wheels/hubcaps like the chrome bumper and the inverted front marker lamps. As it sits the black head looks fine.

Re: 1967 Chevy truck Mirror Question

I had a 67 GMC once upon a time that I believed was untouched and the mirror was black, and the arm was the same color of the truck. Hope this helps.

Re: 1967 Chevy truck Mirror Question

Mine had the arms painted to match the truck but has rectangle, I got the passenger mirror off of a 67 in a pick a part that had the rectangle also.

Thanks for the reply SSTim. As for the inverted parking lights I was hoping you guys wouldn't notice, no explanation why PO did that, its definitely on the list of things to correct. Im liking the chrome on it though. Why its important to me is I would like to make it as correct as possible, its a nice low mile original paint survivor and deserves it. Just looking for help. If I could find a super nice original white bumper it might go on along with NOS white hubcaps.

That helps C/10 king , was thinking of just painting that silver mirror black. Hope to see you back on the "dark side" soon ( saw your comment on your latest purchase shop truck )

Not notice... Really? :-)
Understand your intent to make a more stock appearance (which I support). So to that end I must add that the completely correct trim for you truck is all painted. In fact the emblems and letters are the only front end chrome on your truck "as built". The 67 base truck is very sparse and was often dressed up post-factory. Even the factory dressed it up a bit more for 68 with a contrasting painted panel. The other issue is that the dress parts are far easier to find as reproductions/replacements and often cheaper than the base painted style parts.

Tried finding an original truck picture and I am still coming up empty but have a lot more folders and files if time permits. Though I am leaning towards a black head based on brochure images for both Chevy and GMC in 67. Good luck with your project.

Re: 1967 Chevy truck Mirror Question

Well now I see something else missing, the hood "CHEVROLET": letters. Looks like that black truck answers the mirror question quite well. Thank you Tim. Like I say, its just been sitting in my building and I got the bug to get it out and figured I would fix a few things since Ive been collecting parts for this truck for some time now. Will post new pictures as it progresses. THANKS FOR THE HELP !!!!!

Re: 1967 Chevy truck Mirror Question

Just looked under the hood and do not see an easy way to drill the letter holes. Is the such thing as a template or do I need to find a hood to use ?

Years ago I bought an NOS accessory dress up kit for 1967-1968 with all the moldings. This truck I am pretty sure the RH fender and hood were replaced as the hood still has a GM parts tag under it, plus the paint is off just a hair. Rest is still its factory paint with some thin areas showing the black primer underneath. My guess is it was hit in the front and moldings got changed then. The daughter of the estate could not answer all the questions about the truck but could verify the mileage on it.

Re: 1967 Chevy truck Mirror Question

Sounds like you are on a roll now.

Might have a pattern going with black base mirror and silver deluxe trim mirror heads. Need to work on that some more.

Black mirror on a black truck kind of seems like an information wash to me. I'll look and see if I still have that members info from when I chopped that picture into a lowered version.

Agree, without holes it is very likely a service replacement part. Thinking the dimensions are in the assembly manual. If you don't have one, maybe someone with a CD will send them. If not I'll do some paper flipping.

Glad to be of help. Try to do what I can to help. Sometimes people react counterintuitively after asking a "correctness" question and not getting the answer expected though. :-)

Omg, love this truck! I'm a little bias to this color. Good example of less is more.

Re: 1967 Chevy truck Mirror Question

I have a 67-68 hood here with no letters. I could make you a paper template for the holes and mail it to you if you want a "solid" reference.
it might be nice to have in a drawer if you decide to pull the trigger on the DeWalt. lol

Re: 1967 Chevy truck Mirror Question

hi Jon,
just send a PM with your address and I will mail it to you.
I should be able to do it over the weekend.
I will make a few notes on the template and mark a centerline for reference.

It seems like black was most common in '67.
