The hole is to move the axle back so the driveshaft doesn't bottom out in the transmission. The hole should be in the front.

I need my d/s to be about 1" further into my transmission. Will doing the flip help my out any?

No its not going to help. The flip moves the axle farther away from the tranny. The off center plates move it back again so essentially your axle position stays the same.

BTW- I do not recommend cutting more than 1 coil before you fit and check. If your springs are sagging 1.5 coils on the first cut will bottom out easily.

Re: 73-87 pics wanted: cut coils and flip kit

My coils are pretty healthy but I was going to cut 1 and re-install to see what it does. Thanks for the advice and help, it's very appreciated!

For the rear I'm having my friend weld on new perches at the right angle and was wondering about shock extenders. I found some on summit that are western chassis. Summit part number WST-2074. Would these be good?

That's what I used. They work fine if you have the straight shock mounts on your axle. Some of the axles have a shock mount with a little bend in the tabs that doesn't work with these extenders.

Are you sure about this? I always read that the flip moves the axle closer to the trans. Doesn't the forward hole location on the relo bracket move the axle further back on the leaf, thus to the rear of the truck, to compensate? That's the way it worked on mine at least.

That's what I thought. I will find out today when I go over to my buddies.

Re: 73-87 pics wanted: cut coils and flip kit

The rear of the spring is higher than the front. the center pin is at an angle like this \. so going from below the axle to above will move it forward. Correct? The hole goes to the front to move the axle back to the original location.

Re: 73-87 pics wanted: cut coils and flip kit

When you cut the front coils, how do you address the camber change? The previous owner
of my truck cut the front springs, I dont know how many coils but probably too much as it sits on the bumpstops with the new engine I'm putting in it. The thing has a crap load of shims already installed, and I dont think there is enough room left to shim all the camber out.

I cut the bump stops out but my camber didn't change. But to adjust it you have to shim the upper control arm

Oh and flipping the axle with new perches does move the drive shaft further into the transmission

Re: 73-87 pics wanted: cut coils and flip kit

3 options

1. Buy new grade 8 bolts and replace them

2. Buy spindles and springs

3. Buy stock springs and cut 1-1.5 coils off max
