What is this thing?!?
I was browsing the picture threads a while back and saw a few trucks with this thing above the passenger window.Searched high and low, but without an idea on what it is, its kind of hard to find a thread or picture describing it. SO I yanked this pic from the picture thread (sorry if its your truck)
What the heck is that thing above the window!! |

Re: What is this thing?!?
Or as close as a poor boy could get back in the day. If you live in the southwest or anywhere the humididty is low you are familiar with a thing called a swamp cooler. That's what that is in a mobile fashion. Had a tank for water and a pad for the water to soak and the forward speed forced the air through the opening and through the wet pad into the cab. The evaporation cooled the incoming air. Bacause of the scale and rust inherent in the operation, not many of them survived once true AC became available. They are pretty rare and can command a price.

Re: What is this thing?!?
swamp cooler style. add water, ice and drive. When it starts to get muggy, pull the cord and turn the inner drum to refresh the wet mat inside. air comes in , blows across the mat and out through vents that are directed into the vehicle. Doesn't work as well as it sounds. Just looks cool
