Re: License plate restoration
That's sexy! Georgia charged me $6 to register and $20 a year. Still not a bad price.

Re: License plate restoration
I was surprised to hear that I wouldn't have to renew it. They do make you put a small Vintage decal on it, and the tag has to be the color that it came.

Re: License plate restoration
I own a sign shop, I made my own with reflective vinyl and have made them for friends, everyone loves them. In NC you can run a plate the same model as your truck if it's a antique as long as you have the original tag inside the vehicle. Note, in the picture I have a clear acrylic cover over my plate with a Chevy bowtie on it. The plate is flat but you can't tell a difference.

Re: License plate restoration
I doubt you get away with that here. They make you bring in the plate to register it and it has to be the original colors for the year it was made. She even commented on how the old tags were stamped as opposed to the flat ones of today. She asked "Where do ya'll keep finding all these old tags???" -lol Finding old Alabama tags pretty easy, but finding them with the correct county code (12 in my case) is much tougher.

Re: License plate restoration
I have a YOM plate from the county (RL for Riley county) where I grew up that I found on eBay. Haven't taken the time to register it yet as the lines can get very long here.

Re: License plate restoration
i had to mail my tag to my pops with a power of attorney in order to get mine registered. DMV had to see the plate to ensure it was serviceable and an original GA plate.

Re: License plate restoration
Here's a pic of the Vintage decal they make you put on the tag. It kinda sucks to have to put a sticker on it, but you don't have to have to keep another in the truck or anything like that, so that's cool.

Re: License plate restoration
Some of the guys do that here for the Vintage decal we have to run, but honestly I thought that looked worse than the sticker on the tag.

Not sure a plate you made meets the requirement...although they didn't get too specific there. I do know you can't cover a plate with anything but clear that doesn't prevent photo's of the tag from being taken...but again, you are not covering a real plate, so I guess you got them there.

Re: License plate restoration
That looks pretty good. That tag kinda needs something else, because there is really nowhere to put a decal, especially 2 of them. Nice work!

I'm liking that a lot. If you have to display decals....that is definitely the way to do it. NICE JOB!

Re: License plate restoration
Jojaboy, you've inspired me to find some original 69 plates for my truck, and have them registered. The plates are really neat looking. If anybody knows where I can get a set, please let me know.

Re: License plate restoration
ebay seems to keep quite a few in stock. LOL you can try some of the refinishers too. from talking to one or two of them....either they have alternate means of finding them or may just have some in stock.
it seems that the quality of work varies from one refinisher to another. however, from my "extensive research" (lol), i think the fella in Cleveland, Tennessee is the best quality and price. he charges $95 a plate or two plate set for $185. He will also help you find a set. He will email or message you from time to time as he finds them. he found me a set of Calif black and yellows. His website is FinishYourPlates.com |

Question. The' 69 Utah plate was the same from 67-73 or so. Can I register one of those, or no- since I'd need the '69 original sticker on it? Posted via Mobile Device |

Re: License plate restoration
Here's another sample of the quality of work from www.tagdr.com. I just received this yesterday. No before pictures because the tag was in excellent condition originally.
The finished product is amazing. I just hope my truck turns out half as nice as the plate.
