Mice in the truck

Well the other day i uncovered my truck to start and run it, Low and behold i seen a mouse run across my hood when i pulled the blanket off. That little basta%&d run into the cowl vent. My truck is sealed and can not get into the cab.But i put a trap in there anyway, nothing caught inside the cab yet been 2 days. I also put a trap on the air breather and nailed the little basta%d this morning. I will leave my truck uncovered now and hood open to try to deture these little creatures. I will only cover while painting.
I Made a bucket trap the other day also out of a 5 gallon bucket, youtube it you will see what they are.
What do you all do to keep them out of your trucks.

Re: Mice in the truck

I use a poison called "Just One Bite"... So mice and rats don't even make it into the shop. Either that or the cat will get them.

The bucket traps work pretty darn good.

Re: Mice in the truck

My father had the wiring in his truck chewed up by mice. Put dryer sheets in the truck cab and in the engine compartment and has not had a problem since then.

Re: Mice in the truck

They do lots of damage to anything in the garage and house use traps the more the better all year move them around once in awhile throw them off they seem to catch on. Also nothing better then helping out a young strey cat fix him up living like a king they'll go at it all day making sure no mouse is on his turf

Re: Mice in the truck

we had rats at our condo. filthy neighbors im pretty sure. Anyway they would climb the tree outside my unit and jump over to the roof and get in somewhere. It turned into a dman interstate. We had owls hanging out for the buffet. Dang those things are creepy up close.

anyway HOA was draggin feet so I nailed bigass rat traps around the whole tree about 5 feet up so a kid couldnt touch them. Killed so many rats I finally gave up and just left them hanging there dead until the HOA finally got the message.

Re: Mice in the truck

also dont put traps in the house that arent nailed down. I had put one in the ceiling and heard a bang and then some scammpering.
Then I smelled dead rat for about a week... gross.
I dont like the glue traps. I dont like torturing mammals.

Re: Mice in the truck

My 105 lb dog will catch a mouse every now and then. I could use an ace mouser cat but the dog may not allow a cat around. Curious about the bucket traps, I'm tired of checking the spring traps all the time.

another trick to keep traps from being moved after catching something instead of nailing them down is to use some wire or heavy string on them.

Re: Mice in the truck

mice don't seem to bother my trucks...they come right into the kitchen. the dog doesn't deter them.
I would use Decon if they got into the cab though. no mess and they go for water, or so I've read.

Talking Re: Mice in the truck

Well so far I caught 3 with the mouse trap on the air breather. When i got home from work I checked and got one. Reset it went into the house for about a hour went back out and got another. So far none in the cab. The bad thing is my wife has about 10 outside cats all over the place, I think she feeds them too much. I haven't caught anything In the bucket trap yet on the floor. Maybe there all In the engine compartment. I think I will go check the shop right now. Wish me luck. If I get enough I will have a cook out.

Re: Mice in the truck

Mice like closed up spaces. So if I have a vehicle or tractor that is inside I leave everything open (pull up seats if possible/open compartments) and put poison around.

Cats are good to have around, but really pisses me off when they are crawling all over your truck. Mice don't like Peppermint. Stay away from the mothballs, they reek.. Good luck

Re: Mice in the truck

Good info above. I keep all hoods open and use clear plastic covers over vehicles (let light in, as they like dark and tight spots), snap traps on floor near tires, baited box traps on floor near entrances (flap prevents exit - will get several mice).

Also, put at least one baited snap trap inside any vehicle that shows any inside mouse activity (these need to be checked very frequently dead mice are a mess/stink).

I also put out tubes with "Just One Bite" near outside of entries - tubes let mice to eat in but keep other animals from getting to the stuff.

Re: Mice in the truck

The only things I worry about poison if they crawl back into the truck and die somewhere I cant get to them. Or my dogs get a hold of it and did one year and I thought it was put up safe so he couldn't get to it . Thanks for the good info people it is interesting to here your comments on handling this infestation of free loaders.
