'71 Cab For Patches

My BIL (oldwagon) and I will be finally cutting up a '71 cab and it's going to scrap. Not much good to the cab, truck was rolled and top smashed, both front pillars trashed, back window area trashed. Surprisingly the full back glass is intact ?? Mostly the front firewall is decent, cab floor seems sold and around the w/s washer area. Looks like the pass. side rocker is good, looks like it was replaced before the roll over. Anyone needing patches for repairs? Not looking to get rich on this, just looking for a little bit of $$ to help pay for the acetylene and oxygen. If you can give a pic of an area you are needing will look to see if it is worth cutting out for a patch. Small amount of $$ and shipping is all that is needed. Again, not looking to get rich, just know some folks need patch panels and would rather have original GM thickness instead of thin import tin.

Sorry to hear about the accident. I also hope everyone was okay.

Can you post some pics of the floor on both sides?

Thanks.

Re: '71 Cab For Patches

Guess I need to explain a bit further. This '71 cab is a parts truck roll-over I bought when I was restoring my '71 4x4. Short version of the story is:

A son (not mine) "borrowed" Dad's nice restored '71 truck (again not mine) and went for a ride with a friend. Wet rainy roads, "Let's see what she'll do" and the rest of the story goes down hill from there. Got away from him, went in the ditch and rolled. Completely trashed a nicely rebuilt long bed. Neither boy was hurt thankfully but the truck was totaled. Not sure how soon the son got to drive another of Dad's vehicles. Hopefully learned an expensive lesson there.

Will look at the driver's cab corner and the floor tomorrow, dark right now.

Re: '71 Cab For Patches

For the most part the floor is shot, maybe some good patch pieces at the seat mounts. Was bench seat truck and not buckets w/console. Driver's rocker is trash as is the driver's cab corner. Pass. rocker looks to be original and seems in pretty good condition. Pass. cab corner also seems original, do not see any weld seams on the inside. Non-A/C dash, radio cut out and ignition switch area also cut ? Will know more as we get it cut up. Will post some pictures later tonight.

Re: '71 Cab For Patches

Pictures of the cab. That's all that is left of it, the rest was cut up, just have not gotten to the cab yet. Tired of looking at it so would like to get it gone before much longer.

71sierragrande- Driver side rocker is trash, twisted at very front corner. After looking at the driver side cab corner depending on how much and where you need it cut I guess it is possible?

DD1- Floor pan is a hack job repair, good at the bench seat mounts is all.

Evaded-Pass. side cab corner seems good, appears to be original to truck, no sign of weld line as a replacement would have.

Trans. hump is a low hump but has been cut (poorly) for a floor shift stick.

Pass. side rocker also seems to be original GM.

Will be cutting this cab up within next couple weeks. After I get them removed I will post pics of the worthwhile parts along with price. Will figure shipping at that time also. For the parts that have been asked about the idividual for that particular piece who asked has first dibs. Be patient on this guys. My BIL and I are building a trash trailer from another old truck, he is getting back to work on his '57 4Dr. wagon and I have my '71 4x4 and a '71 Chevelle I'm working on also.

Re: '71 Cab For Patches

My problems are very close to the actual corner, so if you have good metal out to about 4-5 inches from the corner in both directions I could use it. In other words, a 5x5x5 inch piece of the corner is what I need. Even 4x4x4 would work if necessary

Re: '71 Cab For Patches

Sorry took so long to get back to this but here is the results of the '71 cab.

First off, have both the driver and passenger cab corners removed. After we removed the bed I could see that they are replacement corners but were never completed. Tack welds which I ground off with 4" grinder and cleaned up the weld spatter. Also removed the passenger side rocker, same thing, tacked in place but never finished.

71sierragrande has first call on driver cab corner
Evaded has first call on pass. cab corner

The passenger rocker is open to any and all. $15 each on cab corners and $15 for the passenger rocker plus shipping. Money order only, do not have Paypal account. If wanted I can cut either cab corner to smaller size after payment of the cab corner is received to help cut shipping costs but cost is still $15 plus actual shipping.

The corners are very useable but need minor clean up to install, same with the rocker. Fire wall and cowl has good areas if anyone needs patch sections in that area

Re: '71 Cab For Patches

Sorry no tinted back glass, was solid clear. Seems nobody wants them. Have 3-4 from trucks I have parted over the years. I have a slider in mine which helps since have no A/C.

Re: '71 Cab For Patches

Gary,
How is the lower kickpanel on the D/S? I need a 2-3 inch high piece for a cab that is really nice. I could come cut it or if you'd be so kind, Id appreciate it.
Ill take a larger piece 4-5 inches if its available, since I'd hate to have you cut it too short.
Let me know if its decent as Ill be down that way this coming week.

Re: '71 Cab For Patches

Mike, not sure how much patch or just where you need it from but on driver's side the kick panel is good just under the vent area and between the vent and the door opening. Where the kick panel and the floor board come together is rusted and was patched but not very well.

Gary,

I need the bottom where the floor and kickpanel meet.
No issues. Thanks for trying!
