Throttle Cable & Windshield

Hello Everyone!

I need an adjustable throttle cable and need some brand ideas. What are you using?

Also, can I get a windshield locally? Any brands to avoid or consider? What about window rubber (with trim).

Thank you!
Heath

Can't help you with the throttle cable, but you should be able to get a windshield at any local glass shop. Call around though. I did and the price ranged from less than $200 to more than $600. The general consensus on the board is the Precision is the best brad for the window rubber. I bought one from GMC Paul for about $40 shipped.

Good lookin' truck!

Go Pilkington on the glass, my son is a glazier and that's what he recommended.
Why do you need an 'adjustable' throttle cable?

Thank you on the glass.

I need an adjustable one so I can fine tune with my 700R. Need to establish full throttle and the LMC one does not allow that.

OK... I cut the pedal end off mine and shortened it that way. I used a little (dont really know what to call it), but its a little screw clamp that we use in RC airplanes to shorten control cables (they are pretty much the same as the throttle cables in the 71-72 trucks) LOL but it works great. Want me to send you one?

Just make sure you get the correct rubber seal for "your" trim. There are two different ones.

I'd say for quality, get one from Bowties Overdrive Trans. OR one from Lokar--whichever one is cheaper. Plus, you can study Bowties' site for "all you need to know about overdrives"(Take that statement with a grain of salt--as you may be a tranny builder!). Plus, I've heard he will talk to you and advise you on the phone.

Re: Throttle Cable & Windshield

Thanks for the info! Anyone find a windshield that does not have the blue strip across the top?

They come in clear, tinted, or shaded. Just specify which you would like. Tinted is a factory light green tint, shaded is a tinted with a shaded strip, which generally came in vehicles with A/C. I prefer the shaded for the sunny days.

I just put a Spectre on mine. Works well. It is a cut to fit, handle it like steel braided hose when you cut it to fit. $20, worked well.

Thats great news! I don't want the strip as I'm a 6'1 and need the extra view.

Thank you!

+1 on that. We put one of the Spectre throttle cables on my buddy's '71 with a 700R4, and was able to get the TV cable set just right using it. They're sold at all the usual auto parts stores.

Re: Throttle Cable & Windshield

Locar universal throttle cable will work too.....lots of adjustability & smooth operation. They are a bit pricey though..about $40 for the plain black cable one.
