It may not be an issue as you blasted it but Barry (at SPI) recommends to scuff everything with 80 grit prior to their epoxy. He even recommends it for items that were blasted with straight sand. I am not an expert and am not trying to tell you what to do at any point, only passing on what I read and talked to them about. Car is looking great!

You're right El Campo. I didn't want to convolute the details, but we are doing some testing of SPI vs PPG vs Valspar. If we go with SPI (as I expect we will) it will most likely be with the 80 prep.

Just back from another 3+ weeks in Israel.

Car is still at the blaster/bodyshop. Hood and trunk lid were SPI epoxied yesterday. Here are the bare metal pics (no primered shots yet)

Frizzel, how are you going to apply the epoxy primer to the parts you can't see like the seams and behind the frame of the boot (trunk). Even on the body itself there are lots of little inaccessable spots that a spraygun can't reach. I can't recal if the body was ever going to be dipped on not.

Some of the rust prone areas like the pinch welds in the door bottoms and rocker panels will be treated with a liquid rust treatment (TBD) which will wick into the seams followed by a sealer.

Other areas which are not reached by the spray gun are even less effected by the media blasting, so those areas will remain as they have been since new.

The bottom line is the car will be more corrosion resistant than when new.

Yep, SPI. It sprayed on and leveled out very nicely. It's supposed to be more sandable than most epoxies, and the sheen makes imperfections and sanded vs. non-sanded areas really stand out.

Sexy! Epo'd clean metal makes Daddy happy! I've been using Nason's Epo, basically just a scratch coat for the mudwork, Slick Sand, etc. I'm gonna have to give that SPI stuff a whack, been hearing lots of good things about it. Parts are lookin' good!

Yes there are imperfections in the metal. The primer is there to seal the bare metal, and that's where the body work begins.

So far I've been happy with the SPI. Did a little panel scratch test vs Valspar and it seemed like more material was removed from the Valspar side. Granted it was a very unscientific test, I didn't see any drawbacks to the SPI. Long-term performance only time will tell...

You had me looking into them again with that comment There used to be a roots/twin-screw blower kit for the F20C. Seems it is no longer available

The blaster offered me the chance to get in on a blasting session. So yesterday I suited up and we got the rest of the shell done. I have a new-found respect for those guys - it's hard work maneuvering that gun and heavy hose around to get every angle. Meanwhile you are literally inside a giant blasting cabinet which can only be equated to a working in a torrential dust/sand storm! Very difficult to see most of the time. That's where team-work paid off. One was able to inspect while the other moved on.

Also, having the car on the rotisserie for blasting is the ONLY way to go IMO. Both for accessibility/thoroughness of the blast and removal of the media afterwards.

So the body is now moved to the clean side of the shop and being prepped/sanded for a few coats of SPI epoxy. I'll get pics before it's shot.
