Here is a link to my build.
I am using the Performance online Engine and transmission cross members. My oil pan hangs about 1 inch if that below the front axle. I am also using home made motor mounts so that might have something to do with it. When I get the engine and transmission back in the frame I will try to post some pictures. |

Today I made a few more steps forward. I got the motor out of the trailer and onto an engine cart. I just picked up the $50 cart and northern tool because I'll take it to my dad's shop to do most of the work to the motor. I just needed something so I could move it around in my garage. I took the wiring harness off so I think that is where I will spend my winter. I spent most of my savings on the motor and the intake I got today. I purchased an LS6 intake off of a ZO6 Corvette. It was complete with throttle body, fuel rails, and injectors for $400. I'm happy. I can't wait to get it on the motor but I want to replace all the seals and all the gaskets in the motor first. This is exciting.

I would love to have my truck done by next summer so I could drive it home to visit my parents in northern MN and then head on down to back to the 50's fest at the state fair. Will see how much the 5 month year old cooperates and how much work on the truck the wife will let me do!

Hey guys,
So today I picked up what is supposed to be the exhaust manifolds from a C5 corvette. I was told by forum members that the corvette manifolds would clear my frame so when these came up on CL I bought them. By looking can you guys confirm they are the right ones? It looks like the ones I see online. My next question is what are these two holes on the exhaust? I assume the lower one is the O2 sensor but I am not sure. I looked at my truck manifolds and they didn't have either of these holes. I only gave $75 for the pair so I'm not heavily invested but I hope they are the ones I needs. Thanks

The upper one looks like it was an EGR tube, and the lower one should be for the O2 sensor.

The smaller holes up top are for a EGR system. I am going to block those off on mine. The lower holes are for O2 sensors, you will need them if you plan to run EFI. Your manifold look slightly different than mine, but look like they should still work.

Well my LS6 intake arrived today. Its broken. The box was beat to hell and looks like it got dropped right on the back of the manifold. The part with the MAP sensor and vacuum ports got pushed into the intake and cracked around the circle. I don't know if it can be fixed or not.
I sent pictures to the seller and he is sending me another one so I hope that one arrives in one piece. Either way he doesn't want me to send this one back. Do any of your guys have experience fixing these plastic intakes?

That's one of the things I've read people doing. Apparently this type of plastic is really hard to bond back together. I would like to find a professional plastic welder if I can .

Hey guys,
So this weekend was supposed to be the weekend of progress on getting the motor all cleaned up and what not. Unfortunately my 2000 GMC Jimmy decided to suffer from the all too common bad injector spider. I ended up spending my Saturday replacing that spider with the upgraded Multiport FI system. Anyhow, my new intake did arrive and was in good condition. The guy I got it from didn't ask me to send the broke one back so now I have 2 sets of fuel rails, throttle bodies, and injectors. Spare parts may be useful later. I also have been giving some thought to what has been said here by all of you and I am going to go with the 4l60e instead of the 700r4 I already have. It came down to easy of hook up with out having to deal with a tv cable and the fact that by they time I buy the adapter kit and tv cable I'm almost to the cost of the 4l60e. I just gave the 700r4 to my dad. Its going to go in a 57 bel-air behind a 283. So here is a question. I have read that there are many differences in the 4l60e's. Could I run one that came out of a 2002 with a 4.8 when my motor is a 2000 5.3? I think I could but I want to check with you guys first. A local guy has that tranny in 2wd with 130,000 for $400. I can get him to come down. Up here in the north the 2wd trannys are harder to come by because most guys buy 4x4 trucks. Thanks

That transmission will work no problem. If it was from a car you would have to change the tail housings but there is no difference between a 00 and 02 2wd transmission. Good luck with the build! Can't wait to see more progress!

I suppose you wouldn't have to change the tail shaft housing if the torque arm bracket wasn't going to be used. And you said no cars came with a 5.3, you said nothing about them having a 4L60e...

First things first. Before I can stab the motor into the truck I needed some front suspension and boxed frame rails to weld motor mounts too. My complete hub to hub kit from Fatman fabrications will be here soon. I'll post pics when I get it in.

Remember the context of the thread; he asked a trans question about the 2000 and 2002 4.8 and 5.3 in question. There is no car with a 4.8 or 5.3 that could possibly apply to his situation, they all used the fwd configuration. Further, those all use the ls4, which isn't the same as the iron blocked 4.8 and 5.3 we are all referring to. It doesn't even have the same bellhousing pattern. Don't get lost trying for a pissing match, its not helpful to the op.

If you are still looking, we also make a bolt-in aluminum crossflow radiator for the LS conversions, with the correct inlet and outlet, both on the passenger side, along with the steam port and trans cooler for no additional cost. So now that I decided to go with the 4l60e I'm in a predicament. I haven't been able to score a tranny yet but I want to get my suspension and motor mounts all welded in. Can I use the 700r4 for mock up or are they too different in shape? I won't weld the tranny cross member in but I want to have on there when I make the motor mounts so I can get a good idea of how/where to position the motor.
