Re: Stock speaker

Here's what I ended up doing. My 69 Blazer did not have any speaker grille in the upper dash. After reading through this post I to believe that there were Blazers built with the speaker grille in the upper dash. There are just too many guys that say they have the grilles in the upper dash and it not to be a factory installation. Just my opinion

Re: Stock speaker

Asolde, the way you mounted yours is correct for 1969. Mine '69 was the same way.

My 72 K5 definitely has a GM speaker installed in the upper dash just like my K10 and K20 have - it's the same style dash on all three vehicles. I learned K5's had different dashes only after forking out the $$ for the under dash speaker

Re: Stock speaker

Sorry but now I'm confused and just when I thought we figured this out. I came across this pic from this thread of a 72 CST with a seemingly untouched "survivor" interior and note the position of the underdash speaker relative to the AC controls - the brackets shown must lack the nutserts:http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=143007

Re: Stock speaker

My 72 CST is like the above pic. The interior was also untouched when I took ownership of the vehicle.

Re: Stock speaker

My '72 didn't have a speaker in it when I got it, but there are no holes in the dash to mount it off center like some in this thread, but there a tee marks where it could have been bolted with the screws that hold in the A/C controls.

Re: Stock speaker

Just took my speaker out of my unmolested 72, it sat directly under the heater controls and the two bolts actually held in my controls. I did locate in the 1972 shop manual that the correct location for the speaker is under the controls (not the dash) My 69 was offset to the left of the heater controls (also non a/c)

Good info here. The question is what's up w the a/c trucks as the bracket threads don't jive with those on the a/c control like they do for the non-a/c heater control. I still wonder if the a/c speaker brackets lacked nutserts all together....

Re: Stock speaker

I believe that there were two different ways to mount them. My truck is a 69 without air conditioning. I see alot of trucks with air conditioning with the speaker mounted in the center with the bracket outside the dash panel and no nuts welded to them. My truck did not have the speaker installed when I bought it. I put it together and believe I have it correct for my truck. I did not drill any holes the existing holes were correct spacing. The spacing under the air cond contoler is correct too. The bracket with nuts welded to them fits up behind the dash panel and will not work with the ac controler. Anyways I think if you have a blazer with aircondtioning I would be looking at the center type mounting system. I am no expert and really do not know I just went by all the informaition here and the web for my blazer. Good luck

Re: Stock speaker

Just bought a few weeks ago a stock speaker from a member and it's from a 69 Blazer with the nutserts in the brackets. My Blazer is 72 and the speaker brackets does not match with the holes on the left side of the dash. It only matches under the heater controls. It's a factory A/C Blazer. Obviously I can't install the nutsert brackets on the bottom of the heater controls. Or can it?

Re: Stock speaker

Proof pic that shows OEM brackets that lack nutserts. Luis you can 1) grind off nutsets and mount w AC controller 2) drill new holes or 3) trade for brackets that lack nutserts

Re: Stock speaker

Thanks Pete. I will first try and trade the nutserted brackets for the plain one's like the one above. The speaker itself is very clean. Very nice uncut wire.
