LT1 swap power steering lines
I am swapping in a 1995 LT1 and I am having trouble figuring out what power steering lines to use. I am using the stock LT1 pump that is located on the passenger side of the motor. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance 1967 Short step |

Re: LT1 swap power steering lines
You more than likely will have custom ones made up. I believe that the lines on the LT1 are metric and the the truck is of course not. The other option is braided steel lines.

Re: LT1 swap power steering lines
You must have an lt1 out of an f body (?) on b body the pumps are on the ds. I am pretty sure the vette has it on ds as well, not sure. How about swapping accessory drives? If you dont want to run ps at all, i cam across this:

Re: LT1 swap power steering lines
Use the lines that come with each and mate them in the middle. Install the engine and take the original truck line and the LT1 line and lay them next to each other. In a nice obscure place, cut them both. Take them to a good auto parts store or place that makes hydraulic hoses. Have them install a male JIC in one and a female JIC fitting in the other. Mate the 2 together and cover with split loom if you like. Cheap, fast, easy.

Re: LT1 swap power steering lines
I believe you can unscrew the bit nut/fitting on the ps pump and that "cartridge" with spring comes out.you can do the same thing with your current older ps pump and replace the new one with the old one so they will both match your current hose. Now the location may still merit a new hose due to the length. If that is the case you can like said above just have a new hose with what ever ends you decide installed.
On my ls swap I did just that and am using my original hoses. Thanks Dave

Re: LT1 swap power steering lines
Use a Camaro or Firebird radiator, fans and fuel lines. They are close to plug and play. I will be using an inline fuel pump so I don't have to relocate my tank. I am going to swing my motor and trans this coming week. If you have any other q's, drop me a line. Work in progress.

Re: LT1 swap power steering lines
Great ideas. I like the "use both lines" idea. Thanks to all.

Re: LT1 swap power steering lines
take both ends the truck end and the pump end and have a hose made with your old ends. A rad shop or any hyd shop can do this.

Re: LT1 swap power steering lines
What did you do for a gas pedal? I have a 67 and a 72 gas pedal and they are both to close to the fuel pressure regulator.

Re: LT1 swap power steering lines
Street and performance in Mena Arkansas can make whatever you need. (hotrodlane.cc) I used one of their remote reservoirs; and used their diagram for power steering and had a local hydraulics shop make me the required lines. they have a wealth of information for LT-1s and LS type engines on their website.

Re: LT1 swap power steering lines
My fuel regulator on the LT-1 is on the right side. As I stated before Street and performance has what you need. As far as a gas pedal, I used stock. I used a Lokar linkage that works great.
