3 on the tree to 4 (or 5) on the floor.

What is the best choice for a tranny to replace the original 3 speed? Is there one that would work with the existing 250 that would also be sturdy enough for a future 450 horsepower small block? An overdrive 5 speed would be perfect, but a 4 speed would be great too.

Thanks for any help! First time here.

I think youre choice depends entirely on what you want to do with the truck. Oh, and how much you want to spend!!!

If you have a 6 banger and a three speed now----probably the cheapest way to go would be a car 4 speed. A saginaw 4 speed would handle the I6 easily. (now that Ive said that youll get some who will tell you howbadthe saginaws are----but, back in the day----we ran them alot, with small blocks and for the most part had good luck. If your budget permits, find a Muncie 4 speed (or an even heavier T10). If you want an overdrive, go with a 5 speed etc. etc. Really, your choices are pretty good. But, once again, the ole budget is the determining factor. ( I pulled a 700r4 out of mine and changed over to a muncie 4 speed). Have fun with it!!!
