67 LWB stepside bed parts
Guys,
I need virtually all sheetmetal bed parts for a 67 GMC, and have been looking everywhere (I think). It seems that new sheetmetal for stepsides is rare. My question - do I keep looking? Do I change to a fleetside bed, since they seem to me more readily available? Do I scour the Earth for an old rust free bed and pay huge shipping to East Coast (MA)? Any ideas/thoughts on this would be welcomed. Thanks, Lefty

I would say that it depends on what the overall condition of the bed that you have is in. What does it need? Fenders and bedsides can be purchased new (reproductions) for your truck. All you would need is to weld the side barker light holes up in the fenders. This would not be cheap by any stretch of the imagination though, because just about everything for that bed is truck freight and then not even made by the same manufacturer. I would also consider what look you like most. Stepside? or Fleetside? If you like the fleetside, then start looking for one. (I have a nice 67 long fleetside bed here for $400.00, but shipping wouldn't be cheap.) The best advise I could give you is not to get in a hurry trying to locate the parts, unless you are on some sort of time schedule, or don't mind paying large shipping cost. This bed I have here for example would probably cost $600.00 or so to ship. However if you got time on your side someone that is not too far away from you just might come up with what you need cheap. Long stepside parts
Good luck finding the parts,I just found a 68 for sale with a long stepside bed ,the only good bed parts are the bed sides, but that is what I need, the fenders and steps were all beat up so was the front panel.
I have been looking for about 1 year to find some good bedsides.the top rails on my bed are beat up very bad. I did get some good rust free 67 fenders last week so the parts are out there you might have to wait a while till you find them. I bought my steps off e-bay,they were in perfect shape,no rust or dents You can use fenders off 67-72,the 67s are hard to find since they only made them 1 year without the side marker lights Keep it a stepside, stepsides rule

Thanks for the feedback guys
Wes, Old Rusty C10, and Dusti,
Thanks for your opinions and suggestions, especially Rusty for the trucking offer. I think I'm learning to wait for the right part, instead of rushing, but man do I want to drive this thing I'll keep waiting and saving up my shipping charge fund. Happy Holidays! Lefty
