Edelbrock Crate
Next winter I'm putting in one of those Edelbrock crate engines and I'm just wondering if anyone has used on or has any suggestions on what to look for when I get it. The one I plan on getting has about 410 ponies. Also I would like to know I my stock tranny and rear end would last for a while when I drop this much horsepower in. Right now I have the original 350 in it.

All I can say is to check the pricing on crate GM engines. I got a ZZ502 (502 cubes, and 502 HP) for $7035 over the internet. Comes with aluminum heads and all the internal goodies. Might be worth a look-see to see if the GM crate engines are cheaper or better than the Edelbrocks. Just a thought.

Yeah, definitely look into GM crate engines. They will probobly be cheaper. Were you looking at an edel 355? Why not just go bigblock for more streetable power? 410 horses is easily attainable with a BB.

It don't matter if you have 10,000 hp, if you can't hook up the rear tires. As far as normal drving, about the only thing a big block does over a small block is use more gas.
But a big block raises the cool factor quite a bit. The looks and sound of a big block between the fenders is something to behold.

The doner truck I have has the Edelbrock 410hp engine in it. After seeing what it did to a th-400 tranny, there is no-way a th-350 would hold up for long, with any hard usage. But thats just me.. Good Luck..Jon

And check out the flat torque curve...I bought this engine for towing my 28' barge (8500 lbs.).....
