Power steering squeal!!
My power steering works great and does not leak but when I hit the ends of the range it lets out a loud squeal. Now I know enough not to keep it pinned all the way as that is bad for the pump but my new cars do not squeal when I hit the end. Any ideas?

Re: Power steering squeal!!
Sounds like the belts need to be adjusted. It is slipping when you load it up. Buddy

Re: Power steering squeal!!
I recently tightened the belts but maybe it just needs some new ones.

Re: Power steering squeal!!
The belts are probably loose. loosen the air conditioning belt then tighten the power steering belt. then tighten the air conditioning belt. If the pulleys are worn in the groves you may have to replace them to get a tight belt that will not loosen up right away.

Re: Power steering squeal!!
Try adding some power steering additive to the pump. I replaced the belts and pump in my truck and about one year later the pump started to squeal. A little pump additive/conditioner eliminated the squeal, which was also at the end of the steering range on my truck. It has been quiet for about 4 years now.
If that does not work and you need a new pump I would recommend getting an AC Delco pump - it will likely still be made in China but it should be made to GM specifications. Just shop the OEM online sellers and it won't cost much more than an aftermarket pump. |

Re: Power steering squeal!!
Do you have headers?or manifolds?
are your pullys lined up? maybe the pump is new/defective or old/dying you didn't say,and no pics but if this piece is missing good luck getting it tight

Re: Power steering squeal!!
I've got that piece so getting it tight is not an issue.
