rad support carriage bolts

What was the purpose of using the 2 carriage bolts versus regular bolts? Having fun trying to remove them by myself with channel locks and my ratchet wrench -_- ...and can u get the bushing kit from parts stores or is it an order only item? Thanks

Bushings order only not at local parts stores. Carriage works fine if you can keep it in square washer. 40 years usually messes that up.most tomes I just cut bolt.

Imo the factory originally used carriage bolts for easier/ quicker assembly. The carriage head would not require a wrench to tighten it all up. They werent concerned with you and i getting it apart 40 yrs later. I usually use the hot wrench and replace the bolts and bushin as a whole.

Re: rad support carriage bolts

I usually tack weld the carriage bolt head to the square washer and it comes off or breaks

Re: rad support carriage bolts

To remove mine I was going to try and grab the shank of the bolt with needle nose vice grips, pray and loosen the nut.

Think it will work??

Any parts vendor will have them. Just make sure you get the correct one for your year of truck, there are two different kits. '67-'68 & '69-'72.

Again, the length depends on your year of truck.
