Sad
As the economy keeps me short of success, cant seem to find a teaching position. I've had to make the hard decision most of us hate. I've put my truck up for sale, I have a gentlemen coming from Mexico tomorrow to get it. I've enjoyed it for ten years and am upset by letting it go. I learned a lot from you guys here, this forum is top notch. My 72 swb fleet side will be missed.

Re: Sad
That sucks, I sure hope you get what you need out of it, nothing worse than getting rid of something you really want to keep and it not really helping much.

Re: Sad
What is your field? my wife is an art teacher. And though AR mandates it there still a shortage in most all areas not just the art ones. I hate that you have to sell your truck ,I know how it feels I sold a racecar that I loved to feed my kids once [though it was not that drastic] it still hurts. A real man does what he needs to do to put family first I feel that while you may be losing something close to you now it will be worth it and it will be sent back to you in a different form later. They can't find enough teachers here in Oklahoma, Tulsa has a ton of teacher jobs open.

Rewind to 1980. The previous three years had been good to me. Good enough to buy a nice 1978 1/2 Harley FXE with cash in '79. But, I sold the store and had been looking for work for a full year. When I could, I was doing odd construction jobs with no more skills than a strong back and the will to work. Which wasn't enough to get the job done in 1980. I called a guy that I knew would buy the HD. He'd just re-sell it. I knew he'd low-ball me. My woman, who was waitressing, and the two little girls (seven and three at the time) needed rent money and groceries. Plus, I'd never missed the $100 a month child support payment for my oldest daughter (twelve at the time), even though her mother was very well-to-do. The HD was sounding particularly peppy while riding in toward San Rafael, CA through the redwood trees from West Marin. With pink slip in pocket and a low offer from a happy buyer agreed upon over the phone, I thought, "Maybe I should just keep on riding....". I laughed into my scarf and cracked myself on the head with my leather- gloved hand. Two hours later, the bike was gone. Groceries bought. Rent paid. I've had about twelve bikes since then. This year, I had a particularly great Christmas with the girls...They are all grown and college graduated. They're all happily married now. We've got seven grandkids. My woman (same one) and I are headed out in the morning to have New Year's Eve with the oldest. Congrats to you for doing what you need to do, redmonster. There are a lot of two and four wheeled fish in the sea. But, counter to the way the saying goes, there are *not* a lot of two-legged ones that you get to call your own. Even if you don't have a wife or kids right now, and even though I'm really sorry you have to do so, what you're doing with the truck is very, very good.

Re: Sad
Sorry you had to sell your truck but that doesn't mean you have to the forum. Stay close and make a list of what your gonna do when you buy your next 67-72.

Re: Sad
Redmonster, I hope things improve for you in the near future. There will be other trucks. Do what's best for you.
Mag -- what a great, inspirational story, & a nice pic to go with it!

Re: Sad
I've found most of the time when crappy things happen in my life, that down the road I can see where it actually led to better "things" or understandings in my life.
Its taken me a very long time to figure this out LOL.

Re: Sad
For what it's worth, I'm only 27 and I greatly respect the decision you've made. It takes a very responsible person to set aside toys and "things" to help move themselves along in life. My sister is an educator, and every year she awaits the "pink" slip with dread.
Life will sort itself out, and like CG has said, with the down come the UP's along with the wisdom to see them. Best of luck to you, and don't be a stranger!
