700R4 makiing strange noise when I put it in park

The problem is intermittent, occurring once every 20 or so times I put my truck in park. It makes a sound similar to a playing card in a bicycle spokes. It lasts about a second or two and winds down. I am fully stopped when this happens. Any ideas?

Is it fast, almost a buzzing?

It could be the pressure regulator valve shuttling. Usually not a problem except for the noise. There is a fix by grinding this land off

Pretty fast, kind of like putting a screwdriver on the flywheel until it stops or winds down.

as the doctor says when you go into his office and you tell him "my arm hurts when I lift it" Doc says "then don't lift your arm"

I am about to drop a new engine in anyway, I was wondering if the torque converter could cause this?

Parking pawl? May have gotten bent from placing in park before completely stopped?

First I'd check to make sure the linkage is adjusted.

X2 on parking pawl. to check to see if the linkage may be the problem [and it mostly is on this problem]take the shifter out of the trans hole and if it moves ever so slightly it is the problem. You will be able to tell it will like fall in to park once the linkage is unhooked

If the truck is not moving the parking pawl cannot make noise. The gear is integral part of the output ring gear.

Re: 700R4 makiing strange noise when I put it in park

My fear was a bad torque converter, as I said I am about to install a new engine and my radiator is new so I did not want to send metal shavings through all the passages.
