LOL no worry's! i really should of gotten it done with new u joints front and rear i actually even have the u joints HAHA! I was just in a bit of a time crunch with the 64 taking a crap I just didn't get to it with the mile long list i had to just get it stopping! I really did luck out though i would of really been in a bad spot if i didn't throw it where i did.

Re: 1960 GMC K1000 4x4

So don't laugh at me but the front drive line is still not on lol. I want to get it repaired before i put it on it has a nasty dent in the tube. I got the rear one back from the repair shop and it was in such rough shape i basically walked out with a new driveline lol the price also about doubled... i was 170 out the door still a great deal!

Before i installed the rear driveline i got down and looked at what the shape was of all the yokes on the T case ended up finding all the nuts where finger tight and the yokes were sloppy as hell! Before i was finished it turned out to be one hell of a job!

They almost look purple here.

You can see some of the new brake line in these. I still need to hard line the fuel line to the carb.

Once again she moves.

Man that did sound like a big old freight train coming down the highway, pretty cool. Had it wound out a bit, those cars were smart and got out of the road. Good for you having it on the road.

Turning radius may be bad but if the weather turn bad you can drive the 4x4.

Re: 1960 GMC K1000 4x4

ive had a new air clear or intake stuck in my head for a few days. Im thinking of using the blinker holes as intakes ive put small round blinkers in the corner of the hood and i'm left with the big square holes in the hood!

Re: 1960 GMC K1000 4x4

So i have straightened out some of the wiring with the alternator the voltage regulator wasn't even hooked up. I also replaced the alternator with a old one i found out in the barn the one on the truck was putting out 0 volts this one is still not right but it is almost hitting 13 volts. The next projects will be a new alternator and relocating the battery under the bed on the frame or possibly in the tool box and rewiring all my accessories to a insulated post. The reason for the battery relocation is for a cold air intake

Cold air intake is always a good idea. lol. Acts like a super charger at 100 mph.

Re: 1960 GMC K1000 4x4

Yeah i couldn't believe what it did for the 64 it was unreal. So just looked up a new starter and alternator to get set up with the 100 amp bosh alternator and bosh starter its going to hit me for around 300 bucks. I want the important stuff on this truck just decked out i don't want to worry about things like this when i'm out camping in this baby.

Re: 1960 GMC K1000 4x4

Can you post a picture of your rear spring blocks and include the bump stops? I am trying to find out if my 64 k20 Chevy has the right set up under it. Not to many 4x4's being fixed up these days. I want to make a k30 out of mine. nice flat bed work truck.

Thanks man,

on page 4 and 5 there are pics of the rear of the block and the bump stop the front just has a little tab swinging out that the shock bolts on to if it doesn't' look like that its not stock.

Re: 1960 GMC K1000 4x4

i love these drivetrans the trans, tcase, rear and front end in these trucks are just the beefiest thing made if you can handle the noise i wouldn't touch them! you can also buy everything you need to replace the brakes right on the shelf at napa. i never felt the need with my 2wd i could stop so good in that thing and lock them up with ease, but this beast could use a booster at least it takes a while and a good amount of presser to get this baby slowing down just from highway speeds i couldn't imagine pulling a trailer!

Re: 1960 GMC K1000 4x4

Ok. So, after looking at both your guys rear suspensions, I have determined someone added a pipe spacer and flat plate to the Side plate that sticks off the rear block. At some point the suspension was overloaded and bulged the frame out do to not having the factory travel the extra pipe piece takes up. I think I can fix it but these are some odd looking rear blocks. I don't have much of a body left but the drive trane is all intact and the 292 turn over freely with the plugs out. I think she will run again. I need to start a build thread but it is going to take a few years to get this thing going. I have three other trucks to make this one. I just need a good long bed or make this a K30 flatbed.
