1966 C10 Panel Truck Diverter Box
Hello All,
I'm new to this forum, so here's my first post! I recently bought a 1966 Chevy C10 Panel truck (with factory 4x4 ), and have been working on upgrading it since July. It has a rebuilt 327 in it, a new wiring harness, and I built a dividing wall between the front and back of the truck. I also put in dual exhaust, a dual resevoir power assist master cylinder, so it can actually stop in a reasonable amount of time. I immediately took it on a 6000 mile trip around the country, and had a great time! Didn't have to pay for housing the entire time either. Now that it's winter I am trying to get the defroster to work. Everything seems to be working, except I can't find the diverter box anywhere online. I've found a 1967 era diverter box available online but I've been told that it's not compatible with the 1966 year. Does anyone have any suggestions where I can find a new one? If not I guess it's off to the junk yards... Thanks in advance. P.S. I don't know anything about Sunset Farm Organics; the sticker was on the truck when I got it and I haven't gotten around to taking it off yet. |

Welcome to the forum! You've come to the right place. I'm sure someone will chime in with info on that diverter.
6,000 mile trip. Wow. Any pics from along the trip?

That looks similar to my '65 but it seems like it comes back further from the firewall then mine. As you said, my guess is '60-'63 uses one style and '64-'66 uses another style. Respective of the year range, it should not matter if from a truck, panel or 'burb.

Welcome to the forum Addison. Nice rare Panel you have there. One of about 275 made that year. Question, was it originally a 327 truck ? Love to see more pictures. Jon

Re: 1966 C10 Panel Truck Diverter Box
Hello everyone, thanks for the info so far! I am just looking for the part on the cab-side of the firewall; I have the heater core, blower, etc. Just need the piece directs the heat to the defroster or the floor (with all the ice we've had this winter the alternative is 45 minutes with a hair dryer and extension cord).
I've attached some more pics of the truck - it's a bit muddier and it's winter now so I apologize for the dirt. I'm also in the midst of replacing the door latch mechanism and the headlamp switch, so the passenger door panel is not attached, and the wiring looks a bit funky right now. The truck was not originally a 327, I believe it had a straight six in it before. Currently it has a 327 from a 68 Camaro, with a 4 barrel Edelbrock carburetor. The rear bumper was fabricated by the man I bought the truck from; not stock but it was well done. Plus it has the trailer hitch now, which is nice. As for my trip, I took hundreds of pictures; the Blue Ridge Parkway and the Skyline Drive were definitely a highlight. Last edited by Addison; 01-18-2014 at 02:28 PM. |

Re: 1966 C10 Panel Truck Diverter Box
...and a couple more pics.
I made the dividing wall out of 3/4" MDF and a Toyota rear window, with 1/4" x 2.5" steel bar in the center. It's held in place with angle iron I drilled out to attach beneath the factory screws used to hold the body together, and some angle iron lagged into the bed. The last pic is the opening through the firewall, over which the diverter box is attached. It's below the dash on the passenger side (for reference). |
