The source of the wheel discussion was that I gave Scot my left over wheels that I pulled off this truck. When he got them home and started looking close, there were two separate pairs of wheels there, one square body and the other GMT400. I was oblivious to the differences and didn't even realize that my truck was running mismatched wheels.

Interesting, I knew GMT400 still had the same 4.56 bore as the squarebody, but didn't know they changed the shape of the center.

My dually is running mismatched inners, the offset and bore is the same, but interestingly one had an oval shaped valve stem hole. I had to scrounge up two junkyard 16" wheels for the inners since mine had 16.5s originally.

I'm not totally crazy about my mud flaps. The originals were 24x24 and I felt them too short, so I bought the next size longer which is 24x30. They might be too much. I'll have to mull it over.







I need to get it situated in better light conditions for more proper pictures.

just my opinion, but I think the longer ones look good on there. You have done a great job on this one and the truck looks great with the mild lowering you did and those wheels look awsome!

I absolutely had to change the original mudflaps. They were guaranteed stolen. We have a local company around here called BJ Coil Tech that does oilfield work. Some oilfield guy definitely stole these.



Plus, I didn't dig driving around with the words "BJ Services" on the back of my truck.

This time of year I struggle with taking pictures without some sort of shadow or distraction in the back ground.















Valerie has offered to make me a pair of decals for the center of the mud flap weights. I'm thinking about "TEXAS" in black, centered between the stars.

Not yet. I still need to set the toe in close enough to get it to my buddies shop.

Plus, the exhaust is pointed directly at the rearend. I'm poor right now so rather than get a tailpipe, I had Valerie order me (Amazon free ship) a Dynomax 3 inch turn down tip. That will point the exhaust toward the ground directly in front of the rear axle.

I am going to go add it to my insurance today though. Then I'll need to register and inspect it (like 100 bucks total there).

Flaps look great on there. I'm always on the fence about putting them on mine. My rear fenders are already eat up with rock chips from the last 36 years without them. I'd like to put some on when I repaint it, but then again, I love the fact that it looks like Batman's Tumbler Batmobile from the back without flaps

Wow, that truck is looking GREAT! I would like to see it with a bit of weight on it. Mudflaps are looking good; just my thoughts, but I think for a DRW truck w/flatbed that the mudflaps should just about kiss the ground when loaded.

I do not believe there are any Federal DOT laws regarding light trucks, I know NC does not have any light truck mud flap laws. Some other states, such as Komifornia, do have flap laws.

I would be surprised if most states did not have something in the legislature about them... WA has RCW 46.37.500, which is vague, but it says the full width of tire(s) must be covered and extend down to at least the center of the rear axle, not far enough down IMHO, unless it is mounted some distance away from the tire.

I dug around in the TX Legislature, specifically the Transportation Code and I cannot find chit about it. I am not impressed with how their (Texas') websites/searches function.

Just looked it up on the NC General Statutes website, and there is no requirement for flaps or even fenders for that matter in NC on commercial or light trucks.

Now I will say, it would be just good common courtesy and sense to have them mounted, and a general rule of thumb is the 22 degree rule. If you make an angle that is 22 degrees from where the tire contacts the ground to the edge of the flap, that will get the distance from the ground to block the majority of debris from being cast onto following vehicles at highway speeds.

So duallys w/a bed technically dont need them? I sure would prefer to leave them off since they'll be tucked a little more now vs. before. Makes sense to have something on a flatbed or 'open' set-up.

Sorry Tx..... Back to business. Just dumping the exhaust? It's going to dirty up that clean rear set-up super fast.

Scot, its cut and dry. For vehicle inspection, if you have four or more rear wheels you have to have mudflaps.

I got the flaps from my local Truck Pro store. It's like Autozone for big truck parts. The flaps were 23 each. The chrome weights came from the local truck stop. They were 12 dollars each. Not exactly what I wanted, but available right now, and the decals should make them "just right" for my purposes. That pretty much depleted my truck budget for this pay cycle.

I threw the old ones away. I didn't figure there was any demand for stolen mud flaps that said "BJ services" on them. This isn't the first time I have been short sighted though.

Tomorrow's job will be welding the turn down onto the exhaust and going over the truck front to back to make sure everything works properly for state inspection.



And, I need to set the toe in so I can drive it to my buddy's shop for a proper alignment.
