Not a GM product, but its related to one

Here's a picture of my late father's truck with mine in tow. We still have the '52IHC L-180, complete with late model drive line. Someday I hope it will be mine!!

Re: Not a GM product, but its related to one

Got any more pics of it? What are its specifics? I was on my way to buy a '47 IH when the serpentine belt blew on my truck and I limped it to the nearest exit 1/4 mile at a time until the motor got hot again and I let it cool back down. It was unbearably hot that day too. I was about 20 miles in any direction from a town. My fiancée was so pissed (she was in the passenger seat), she threw the idea of buying an old truck out the window altogether (she wanted another project and agreed to pay half). My mom drove 45 minutes with a new pulley and belt. It wasn't until I found a '53 ton and a half Chevy sitting about five miles from home for $550 that she decided to go in halves again, although that one was cheap enough, I wanted it for my own intentions.

Re: Not a GM product, but its related to one

Thanks everyone. It's been hard for me to talk about the IHC as it was my father's and sadly he passed almost 5 years ago, very suddenly and unexpectedly. He and a friend did a 5000 mile trip to Mobile Alabama and back the week before to buy a new Haulmark Triaxle enclosed trailer and a '69 Road Runner convertible as a draw car for our local Rotary Club. The IHC sits on a late model Lo Pro chassis, DT466 powerplant, 5 speed main, 4 speed auxiliary transmission. The bed looks massive on it, until I put my big dually up on it. When we get home from our weekend road trip i'll try to post some pictures of the build of the ramp truck.

I'm glad you showed it. You sparked my curiosity when you made mention of it. Those Ls sit very tall in original configuration. It's amazing how much lower yours if by setting on the later lo-pro chassis.

Thanks all, the photographer who was at the show we run every year in our smallish community sent me some of the pictures from the event and I was impressed with this picture, he literally painted the trucks with a million candlelight power spotlight with a long exposure, was kinda neat.

Re: Not a GM product, but its related to one

The IHC was originally had a fuel tank on it and was used by the Canadian Army on a base, hence it had very little miles on it and almost no exposure to road salt. My father purchased it over 20 years ago, somewhere there is a picture of me beside it when I was around 8 years old the day the deal was struck and before any transformations took place. My dad purchased two additional cabs to complete the stretch, and there is 20" between the doors. The fenders had to be widened to cover the wider front axle, in hindsight my dad really wished that he had of cut the cab down the center and widened it as there isn't a ton of room in the cab width wise. These two pictures are difficult for me to share, but it was very important for our family to give my dad his last ride on his pride and joy. Even though it was still wintery weather my brothers and I had our '68's in the procession as well (Ford Custom 500 2 door car, Ford F-100 shortbox, and the dually) 72MARIO also was there with one of his trucks.
