Running R12 in a Sanden?
Hey guys...gonna be installing my ls3 soon so it will obviously have LS accessory drive with a Sanden style compressor. My 72 C10 currently has factory air that works great running R12 with the stock A6 compressor.
My question is, assuming I buy a Sanden unit already filled with R12 compatible oil and R12 charge ports, can I just get custom lines made and plumb the new compressor into my existing components, and continue running it as an R12 system? I figured this would be the cheapest/easiest integration into the AC system already there. Didn't want to go 134 because I'd like to keep the stock condenser, and I'm told 134 doesn't work too well unless you upgrade to a parallel flow unit. |

Re: Running R12 in a Sanden?
I sold a container of R12 for $475 when they banned it the first time here.
Two years later they said it was okay to sell hotshots, then banned them... then came out with the replacements, and said it was ok again....go figure.

Re: Running R12 in a Sanden?
Looks like you can still buy R12 on eBay but it ain't cheap! Regardless you have to sign an affidavit saying you are a reseller, authorized installer, or will have an authorized installer charge/evacuate the system you are working on before they'll sell it to ya. Suuuuure!

Re: Running R12 in a Sanden?
The systemm will work but for the cost effictiveness I think your better off going 134-A now and be done with it. I can't tell any differance in performance of it compared to R12. Mine will blow 38-40 degree's sitting still.

Re: Running R12 in a Sanden?
Yes mine has been upgraded. I bought the classic air upgrade when I got the compressor.

Had a friend who ran a garage and he used freon called fr12. Compatible with r12 and was priced below r134. Don't know if its still around.
