700r4 tv cable
when i got the truck it seemed like it was bogging down going 40-50 mpg which i found strange since it has 456 gears and 35inch tires i thought that should be good. SO a friend suggested i check the tv cable. Turns out when the motor and trans were swapped the po used a turbo 350 bracket and wrong bracket on the carb... To correct this i install the proper bracket and proper edelbrock geometry bracket on the carb. Surprise its all fixed.. NOw the issue i have been continuing to have is the actuall throttle is very stiff from the peddle. I just determined its the tv cable. When i disconnect the tv cable from the carb the gas pedal feels totally normal. Anyone that owns a 700r4 knows the tv cable needs to be adjusted properly, which mine is now, however its creating a very stiff gas pedal. MY question is does anyone else have this experience? a very stiff pedal? possible the cable is bad?

Re: 700r4 tv cable
What was your adjustment process? To double check unhook TV.cable then push the "hidden" button and retract the end into the adjuster. Then rehook to Carb. With engine off turn the throttle to wide open with your hand at the Carb. Turn it real hard you'll hear ratcheting taking place. You're now adjusted

Re: 700r4 tv cable
PS I have noticed the trucks from the mid to late eighties I've driven having a noticeably harder throttle pedal than those from the other years couldn't say why tho.

Re: 700r4 tv cable
My cable does not do the ratcheting effect not sure if it's defective or the brand of cable, it's a huge pain in the a. I have to manually click it test drive it then readjust until it seems to be shifting correctly... Wondering if a stronger throttle cable would be nicer... There is almost zero pedal feel, it's all or nothing

Re: 700r4 tv cable
I believe They should all ratchet but I'm no expert I've only ever had one. I pulled it in favor of a t56. I'm putting one in my brothers 71 and his cable appears the same as one I had
