62' SB Stepside Emergency Brake

Does anyone have a parts breakdown on the lever, mounting and cable(s)? I found the lever assy under the seat last weekend, PO might have been using it for protection... Anyway not sure what I will need to get it mounted up and working. Thanks for the help!

That's a great start. the cables have all been cut.. I'm starting pretty much from scratch. I wanted to get all the info I could find cause I am in the process of doing a 4 wheel brake job (This weeks project) Appreciate the info 1963C-10!

The 62 mechanism looks allot different than that. I think you can purchase the front and rear cables from LMC or Classic Truck Parts of America. I think you need 2 rear cables that run along the outside oft the trailing arms. Where the three cables connect under the tail end of the transmission there are 3 bars and a spring. I do not think any of the catalogs sell these parts. I would look for them at the junk yard. Also there is a bracket that holds the cable in place next to the lever that you will need.

Here are a couple of pages from the assembly manual showing the emergency brake set up on the 60-62 trucks which forestb described above. This e-brake setup is identical to my '62 stepside. As stated above you can buy the cables but the brackets & lever bars will most likely have to be found used from a salvage yard. Another option, the lever bars are not that complex so they most likely can be fabricated from 1/8" flat stock if you can not locate any used ones. Hope this helps.

I bet the PO did away with all the lever bars and cables when he installed the stroker & the turbo 400 trans. I would be glad to hear some opinions would I be better off to convert to the foot brake? I was doing some reading in the FAQ's about it this afternoon... thanks for all the info and feedback.

I have the same problem. All I have left of mine is the E brake arm and the cable that went to the connection behind the trans and the passenger side cable to the drum. I have an auto so its not a huge deal but would like an ebrake. PO on mine used the ebrake crossmember to mount the 700R4.

What I would like to do is have a floor mounted like all the new cars. Seems like it would be a lot simple connection. Not sure what donor vehicle to use though. Maybe like the one in my 02 Camaro.

If you go to a foot pedal you will lose your fresh air vent. Not a big deal and have to move your high beam switch maybe.
