Re: Never knew it would be this hard finding a shop to do a complete paint job.......

In my area, there are numerous shops that will do the work. However the "Cheap" paint job is not a viable option. What everyone says is true, the shops can make more with no expectations of perfection on a daily driver. Most people will trade a wreck, not long after they get it back. I hear it all of the time "It just is not like it was before the accident". If they care enough to be involved in the repairs, then the shop is not likely the one that your insurance wanted you to go to. The insurance company wants all of the bucks in their house and not the body shop's. $10,000.00 is a price that many shops will start at and then go from there for anything extra. We have one shop in my area that charges by the hour while the vehicle is in the paint booth. Then they add the cost of materials on top of that.

Has anyone heard of or dealt with any of the "DIY" type shops? I know there are some down in the Texas area but was not sure how wide spread it was.

Seems they charge by the hour, day or week for a "space" or lift and then a separate charge for when it's time to use the booth, plus an over night fee to leave it in there.

Then I've heard of another charge they'll do where you can hire the expert or professional for X amount per hour or X amount per question(s).

I actually work on an Army post that has a shop and paint booth that i could rent by the day. Has all of the tools in it as well that would be needed to do an entire paint job. If i had the skills, it would be awesome. LOL. Unfortunately i do not. It is extremely cheap to rent as well. Like 25 or 30 bucks a day and it is a pretty nice booth.
