So blindly enraged right now!

Some jerk wad drilled a hole in my aluminum air tank, and cut all my air lines on my truck! Soooooooo mad! I know this isnt tech, but I needed to vent to someone! My wife came home, said the truck was sitting funny. I swung home for a minute to check it out....yep, somebody got me. WHO DRILLS A HOLE IN AN AIR TANK???????
Already went and got new air line from the truck shop ($46 I didn't have to spend). Looks like I know what I'll be doing on my next two days off.
Either somebody doesn't know I'm a police officer, or somebody knows I'm a police officer.....
Rest assured, I will be dusting my tank and lines for fingerprints tonight.

If only.....

Sad part is that it was probably one of the ear biters in my neighborhood that thinks he's cool and wants to impress his "homies"

Re: So blindly enraged right now!

Thats awful bud. I'm sure the cops wont be of much help, but you should at least get a report on file.

Reminds me of that scene in pulp fiction
"I wish I could've caught him doing it. I'd have given anything to catch that ***hole doing it. It'd been worth him doing it just so I could've caught him doing it. What's more chicken*** than ****ing with a man's automobile? I mean, don't **** with another man's vehicle. "

edit: skipped over the part where you said you are a cop. I hope you find em!!

Re: So blindly enraged right now!

A 'Smile you're on camera' picture under the truck might prevent it from happening again (?) Or an old Pelco mounted to the side of your house (not even hooked up) ..

I work in IT for Public Safety too, you might talk to your IT guy and see if they have an old one laying around.

Re: So blindly enraged right now!

usually my truck stays garaged. i was cutting palm fronds back and had them loaded in the back of the truck, and left it sitting out all night and today. Sad part is that my neighborhood is mostly absentee vacation homes......no eyes watching during the day, other than my dog, which clearly isn't scary enough.....

Re: So blindly enraged right now!

i got it !!! if your truck could drop to the ground! and you reroute your air lines to the center of the truck then the person that is responsible for the criminal act should be there pined under the truck in the morning!
hehehehhe i like it!

Re: So blindly enraged right now!

danheit, that sucks! I bought a camera DVR setup several years ago just because there were times I had to leave my truck and/or my son's 72 Nova in the driveway instead of the garage. I felt it was a small investment considering. I have cameras on both sides of the driveway, in front of the house and the front door. I have it setup to watch it on my 2nd monitor at my computer. You can set them up to watch from your smartphone, even remotely. I have a small hard drive to record to in the event something happens. Then I can go back and see what it was.

I helped catch a couple car prowlers several years back at my old house. They were older kids, but kids can mess your $hit up just as bad as anyone else. They were just opportunists, if the door was unlocked they'd steal from you but they didn't break anything. You can get systems now for just a couple hundred bucks, then there will be no mystery who's doing it. Plus most have IR night vision so it can be pitch black out and you'll still catch them.

Mike

Re: So blindly enraged right now!

that's definitely a good idea to install cameras for the front yard and back. I had an incident not to long ago that opened my eyes to the necessity of video tape for the home.

it sucks that someone vandalized your ride too. when in doubt, double check the neighbors!! who else knew they would have enough time to drill a hole in your air tank before you and your wife would find out? its not random! but look at it this way, you still have your vehicle and not facing charges. we all know what will happen if we actually catch a person on our property stealing or vandalizing right? install your cameras and chalk it up to a lesson learned. I hope you find the people responsible, just don't let them bring you down to their level once you get 'em.

Re: So blindly enraged right now!

Lol, I appreciate all the kind words guys! I have a 100 different scenarios in my head of what I can do or how I could have prevented this, but when it all comes down to it, it's on me. Even if I find the little punk that did it, good luck on getting restitution (trust me, I know). Installing cameras, well, as much as I'd love to, from a law enforcement standpoint, it's usually not worth it. Most of the cheap systems don't have a high enough picture quality to be able to really identify anyone past general descriptors such as being a white male in their late teens. It's actually better that I NOT know who did it, especially if it's the little trouble maker down the street. As far as neighbors, I don't have any in town. They're both from up North, and went back as soon as it got hot down here. Go figure. It's time to chalk it up to crappy luck, and to hope that some of the aluminum tank filings blew back into their eyes while drilling my tank (it was under pressure). Now I just need to take a deep breath and find a new tank. Way2Lo quoted me an awesome price on one, but unfortunately I will have to search for a used one for right now. Anybody have an extra tank they wanna sell?
Kidding....unless you really do, then PM me....

Re: So blindly enraged right now!

Well buddy, my guess is you are certainly right on the camera resolution thing. Just from the gas station playbacks I've seen on TV....it must cost some bucks for a good system since most gas station cams seem to be of low quality in the video department.

It's a pain but could you get a menacing dog? Powerful and territorial dogs seem to be the best deterrent.

When I began to work on my truck last summer (my garage door opens to face the road) I got a bit nervous and had the ancient wood and glass door removed and a whole new door and jamb put in. I backed that up with the door jamb armor setup. I further secured my garage door and have additional plans.

I have thought about getting a big dog but then I'd have to either get a fence or put in one of those shock collar things....

Best of luck to you and thank you for the job you do. Police officers do not get enough thanks these days.

oddly enough, I have a 140lb English lab that sits in the back yard all day. Might be time to do the electric fence thing and give her free range of the yard.....

That really sucks. Cop or no Cop, someone's got a major issue with you. Hopefully you can put them away before they can to do anymore damage. Security System? Good luck Bro.

It figures. That's how it always is: we had the means just not where we could get at it or the means itself couldn't get at the problem.

I feel your pain Dan. When I got my grandfather's/father's truck back after it being sold so long ago some jackass shot the windshield with a BB gun and cracked it! And I am also a cop!

Re: So blindly enraged right now!

I totally understand what you are going through. My Corvair got vandalized last year. The paint still has not been fixed due to being a broke college student. The police took a report but I doubt they have looked into beyond that, the detective was not entusiatic.
