Re: Got my steelies on!

That's a homerun. I'll be following your lead on this one....my truck is white as well. The white letters on the tires top if off perfectly!

Re: Got my steelies on!

Wow----old thread. I'm not even running those wheels anymore. Same tires still, but I found a set of 8" wide 6-lug rallye's and had them powdercoated black.

The 6" wide wheels were really too narrow for the tires, and the handling suffered for it. Its way better now. I still have the black look, different centers though.

Still looks good. Not sure how they did it, but I saw someone put the factory caps on the ralleys.

I think you could make a piece to go on the rallye cap bolt to hook dog dish caps onto. I was thinking about trying to fab something but just haven't had time.

Re: Got my steelies on!

In a recent thread there was mention of someone buying clips and bolting them onto rims without nubs to retain the caps. Steels haven't always had nubs to retain the caps.
If I recall right the poster was putting poverty caps on his rallys.

I know they make them for the smaller diameter poverty caps and some of the rallye caps need them. But I think you need a bigger version to work for dog dishes.

Re: Got my steelies on!

Lattimer, those look really good, both ways! Question- how did you mask the circle around the bow tie?

On which? I hand painted the dog dishes to cover up the yellow that was there.

On the rallye centers, I bought vinyl decals on Ebay to cover the 4x4 medallion.

Re: Got my steelies on!

Oops, they both have bowties. Sorry, your first set. I'm going a similar route, and stressing out about keeping the circle round. Most likely over thinking it.

I went to a hobby shop and got Testors red paint in the little glass jars, and an assortment of small brushes. I too my time and did them by hand.

I wanted to spray them, but I couldn't come up with a good way to mask them within my limited abilities.

They look good from 3-4 feet away. Get them in front of your face and you can see minor errors and the brush lines. I figure if anybody gets that close I'll kick them in the ass for trying to steel my hubcaps...LOL.

I'm still looking for a set of 8" wide steelies that accept the dog dishes. That's what I really want but haven't been able to find a set for decent money.
