anyone switch to the 4150 base EFI ???
looking into some of the kits from HOLLEY, EDELBROCK, FAST, MSD...
any info would new great. i have read stuff but want real world experience....

we have installed one powerjection 3 and working on the second as we speak. It works great and gives it a old school look.

First question - what are your goals with the conversion? What are you looking to accomplish - better drivability, the ability to handle 20 psi of boost, traction control, or what?
Second - what features will you need the ECU to run?

Better drivability. Better mileage. I have a holley 600 DP. Runs and starts fine

The available 4150 replacement units cost between $1800.00 and $2800.00 after you purchase the ECU and fuel pump. Since these are "open loop" systems they will never increase gas mileage up to the numbers a modern closed loop system is capable of maintaining. You might see a two to three mpg increase at best. It will take longer than the truck will live to get the mileage increase to pay for the conversion. Besides, you say your truck starts and runs fine. At 300.00 a pop you could buy a bucket full of brand new carbs for the cost of a throttle body injection system so why not stay with what you have?

My experience has been that TBI type setups are often a step up over a carb, but don't do as well as a full multi-port injection setup when it comes to drivability and mileage.

IMHO these setups made a lot more sense before the popularity of LSx swaps. Lots of members have swapped in complete 5.3 for not much more than an efi kit with dramatically better results as far as mileage and drivability

I decided there must be a good reason these kits aren't flying off the shelf.
its because there not worth the 3k and labor, and not 100% trouble free. if i get one and install and it works i would be lucky.....to me thats not worth 1500. let alone 3k. SO vintage air is coming in the brown truck.....and it was cheaper buy half

I went a different route and used the FIRST TPI set up. I think the complete kit, including manifold, injectors, computer, chip, throttle body, & harness is just under $2k. Take a look at my build thread for more info.
I've got about 2500 miles on the system and it's running very well.
