Any one running LED light bars?

I am interested in running a 13 inch LED light bar behind my grille or something like that. I havent seen anyone do this on a 67-72 2wd yet. But i was wondering if anyone has seen or has any pics of this? Post them if you do, please! Thanks!

Re: Any one running LED light bars?

I wish someone would. I've contemplated putting the biggest one I can fit behind my grille.

Re: Any one running LED light bars?

Ive got a couple 6'' Rigid Industries E series bars sitting on the shelf i plan on mounting behind the grille on my 69 GMC. Those things throw off an insane amount of light. making a bracket that mounts the lights to the core support shouldn't prove to be all that difficult.

Re: Any one running LED light bars?

I've been thinking about doing the same. I was thinking either hella square driving lights or an led light bar behind the grill.

Re: Any one running LED light bars?

I have wide beam rigid srq lights mounted in a valance below the front bumper. They are wired to be on whenever the ignition is on for daytime running lights. The valance is the plastic one off 90's era trucks. With the angle of the valance and the flush mount lights it creates excellent fog/ side to side visibilty. They are bright and can blind folks approaching at an angle on dark nights (ie winding mountain roads). For city and freeway driving they are not obnoxious and add a safety margin above the silverstars.

Would you please post a few pics? i sure wouldnt mind seeing your setup! How did you get the valance on? Does it just bolt up or does it take some fab work?

Re: Any one running LED light bars?

Don't have any pictures of the mounting but we used the stock mount points for the valance and fabbed some tabs. Here are some pics from different angles.

Thanks! We love it. Have logged 8000 miles since finishing it in August and it is amazing. The full air-ride at stock height rides so smooth.

Re: Any one running LED light bars?

Just found this on superbrightleds.com it's a 50" wide curved led. I might try to see if I can fit it. The hood latch support does sit in the way a little bit so I might have to do some cutting and welding. http://www.superbrightleds.com/morei...88w/1830/4297/

Re: Any one running LED light bars?

I've been seeing plenty of new pickups with these mounted behind the grill, stealthy look. My question is, how much is blocked by the grill slats, and does anyone care?

Tsetsaf, nice job on the valance and lights! You may have just inspired me to add one to my truck.

Re: Any one running LED light bars?

We now have 35k miles on the truck and the valence lights are awesome. They are not DOT approved being legit Rigid LEDs they are super freaking bright. Having them in the valence aims their beams to the side so in normal traffic it is not a big deal.

Get on the twisties at night and it is not nice to oncoming traffic. I will flip them off/ on when driving in those conditions.

They would work fine mounted behind the grill. My intention was for an always on DRL and could have easily accomplished this with the 2 LED versions (versus the 4 we used). The 2 light would easily line up between the openings of the grill. Your problem would then be light scatter and shadows (the grill openings are level) but again the lights are so bright it would be no big deal.

For DRL they are perfect and can not be missed. Too many distracted drivers out there.

Here are what I would consider behind a grill: http://offroad.rigidindustries.com/content/sr-m

Yea I'm quoting myself. Now I have this '68, perfect spot for an LED bar, better than the '69.
