Wanted: pics of 68 Chevy truck seats
Hey, I'm restoring a 68 k10 shortbox. I'm doing a original restore. Someone over the years put a seat cover on the truck, not sure what the original should look like? The truck is a pretty low option truck. If you have detailed pics of a original 68 seat that would be great. Thanks!!
Matt

What interior color and trim level is your truck? Is there a SPID posted already?

Re: Wanted: pics of 68 Chevy truck seats
Here's a couple pics of mine from when I gave away my bench seat (which I regret, now). 1968 C10 1/2 ton with SPID options: DK GREEN/OFF-WHITE and GREEN CLOTH TRIM. Also, the link to the thread.

Your welcome. I'm always happy when I can actually contribute. It doesn't happen often.

Re: Wanted: pics of 68 Chevy truck seats
Unfortunately LSUMurse's seat is not an original 68 base trim vinyl seat nor original to his truck per the SPID. As per his SPID the truck would have had a vinyl seat with cloth seating area inserts.
The base vinyl trim in 68 was a very plain cover made from a debossed vinyl that ran the entire face of the seat cushion and again on the back. It is a quick and strong basic seat cover. However the custom nature of the vinyl makes it difficult to match later. Even when new it was hard to get replacement material for repairs. So it would often be cheaper to sew up or buy a custom cover than buy a dealer replacement that almost always had to be ordered. Not sure where you are going to find in now except maybe SMS Auto Fabrics www.smsautofabrics.com or Original Auto Interiors Inc. www.originalauto.com As outlaw 3454 posted that is the correct base cover. You can see the ribbed sections run completely up and down both the cushion and back and to all the edges as one piece. Here are pictures from two different 68 blue base vinyl trim truck. Reduced 50% in size here, but I could email the full size images on request.

Re: Wanted: pics of 68 Chevy truck seats
If you can't find a suitable direct replacement vinyl I would try to find a bulk mini pleated vinyl material as a substitute but then you still need to sew on the face material at the sides and the center. SMS should be able to supply you with at least the skirt vinyl for a correct color match if they do not have the face material.
