Dually rotor help needed
Hi all,
I have a 72 CC dually with the one piece front rotors. I also have a pair of dually adapters from the front of a 1990 Chevy K30. My question is, can I use a standard 3/4 ton rotor and put the dually adapters on the rotor and still end up with the right spacing? These one piece rotors are extinct as far as I can tell. I have heard that the 72 spindles are identical between the C20 and C30 Any info would be most appreciated. |

Re: Dually rotor help needed
I used the same adaptors on my K20 rotors to allow the Budd wheels to fit. I marked the center of the tire with the standard wheel and checked again with the Budd wheel and the adaptor and the center of the tire is in exactly the same place= same scrub radius, correct steering. It was done 6 years ago snd no problems.
Hope this helps Bill |

Re: Dually rotor help needed
Gives me hope Bill, Thanks. I need to research if my C30 dually spindles are the same as C20 single wheel spindles. If they are, I should be able to get a pair of rotors for a C20 and bolt on the dually adapters.

Re: Dually rotor help needed
I wonder if rotors for a SRW one ton and the spacers would work? If the C20 spindles are different you could try to go that route.

Re: Dually rotor help needed
I did have to use longer studs to pass through the spacers.

Re: Dually rotor help needed
I recently modified my 72 C20 with 1989 C3500 suspension. IRCC the front calipers are noticeable larger than the C20. The adapters should work fine unless you are trying to carry a lot of weight. In my case, it was a no brainer to upgrade to the larger calipers. Plus the C20 rotors were in bad shape and I need to replace the lower ball joints anyways so why not.

Re: Dually rotor help needed
The spacers are GM factory equipment from a 2000 and up 3500.

Re: Dually rotor help needed
Not to Hijack the thread, but Im working on this right now as well. I have 1975ish spindles and brakes from a SRW 1ton. So, are you saying that I can use the SRW rotors and the newer 2000+ spacers and still run my dually front wheels?

Re: Dually rotor help needed
Thanks for all the input guys, I'm going to dig into it this week and see what transpires. I'll update with pictures when I have some to share. One other thing, I have a later model 14BCC axle and one of the hubs has metric studs in it. Do I need to drill those out to take SAE studs or will they press in with no issues? I'm running 06 Dodge 17" wheels and want to get the conversion lugs to use my hub rings and late model center caps. This is the truck in question. She's been real good to me so I want to reciprocate the favor. Already have a brand new set of Coopers on her as well as a bunch of other stuff. Rust and Body hopefully in the near future.

Re: Dually rotor help needed
I was told the other day in a thread I started that you could swap out the spindles , rotors and calipers from 74 to 87 c30/3500 dual wheel trucks into 71-72 c20 and 30 and upgrade the brakes to be bigger using the 1 1/2 rotor and the wedge type calipers. Also told G 3500 and G 30 box vans with dual set ups were the same up to perhaps 95. Which would include mini busses too. Haven't tested that theory yet but plan to. If anyone can confirm or reject that chime in.

Re: Dually rotor help needed
Thanks for the info. If I am understanding you correctly, I can direct swap 74-87 dually spindle without changing my ball joints? Or can I just upgrade my rotors to the new style on my existing spindles?
