Check out the crazy VIN on this 69 C10. Wow!

Just when you think you've seen it all. Check out this 69 C10 SWB on Ebay (not mine - of course). Someone decided they can make their own custom VIN tag. Check out the last picture. Just b-e-a-u-t-i-ful.

I can see big issues with titling in some states. Funny they even spent the money on rosette rivets....

Interesting...

So the VIN is : CE149A839813

It all matches/makes sense with the truck, even built in Atlanta... it's just so weird. I guess they could have lost the plate during paint.

I would buy a parts truck/title and run that before I'd leave that VIN on there! Definitely a truck I wouldn't buy.

if they have a matching spid, title, and frame vin matches that plate, they have a pretty strong argument the plate was simply lost. Who knows if that was the case but more likely than an intentional vin # swap (since its so thinly veiled).

Re: Check out the crazy VIN on this 69 C10. Wow!

That's true, and that's probably what happened, likely during the painting process, BUT while it is legal to restamp a VIN into a body panel/frame section that has been replaced from an accident or rust (very common on early mustangs where the VIN was stamped into the fender aprons that rusted out) I've yet to see anywhere where restamping a VIN plate was legal.

Sure, but they're not keeping it. They're selling it. There is no way that I would buy it that way. Would you? Doesn't prove to me that the cab is original. Not hard to swap a glove box door. Harder to lose a VIN tag.

If you zoom in on the VIN you'll notice the rosettes are made-up also.

They also went all the way through the aluminum??? they used to stamp it with for the "1" near the end

What sucks is that it's actually a pretty damn nice looking truck.

I think that would be a good truck to stay away from. A long ways away.

RenoKeene is right, those look like plain old pop rivets someone took a file to.

If they swapped the cab or glovebox door, seems they would use the Vin plate from either the old or new cab instead of trying to make one. I wouldn't buy this truck but if it were a something more unique like a 68 50th anniversary 4x4 and I didn't plan on selling and the price was right, I'd maybe go for it assuming the frame vin checked out. Many states never inspect vehicles, they just run vin's and do the paperwork.

I'm still not defending making of a Vin plate, just saying the most logical thing that happened is the original Vin plate was lost. I think they are foolish for thinking the VIn plate or rivets would fool anyone. Probably be better to just leave it without a tag.
