Just ran through your build. Great job! Any updated pics? How's the interior coming together?

Thanks for checking it out. I don't have many updates, but it is getting close. My body man moved 1.5 hours away and was having a hard time getting out to my house to work on the truck. So as much as it killed me to do it, I brought it to his paint jail to have the bed painted and final touch up done. That was April 12, and here we are about 3 months later the brand new bed parts that needed little to no body work still aren't painted. This seems to be a common problem in the paint/body trade. Fingers crossed, this 4th of july weekend I can pick it up. Once it comes back I have to do front and back glass, exhaust, bumpers, lights, and that should be about it. I'll put up a few of the pictures I have.

Here is the most recent picture of the interior.

And a few from the jaunt to the body shop. Being 1.5 hours away, its hard for me to get there too. The bed in primer is the last ive seen it. Supposedly the inside of the bed is painted and its on the truck now waiting to paint the outside.

Re: 1972 4x4 Short Bed Project "Seven-Deuce"

Old thread that I'm glad someone revived! Very nice build! I'm in the process of doing my 72 K10 SWB now. Unfortunately I think mine is in a little worse shape, but reading this thread gives me some motivation :-)

Thanks for checking it out, stay tuned in the very near future for big updates. I've been working on it like crazy trying to get it on the road before summer is over. Have been slacking on updating this thread. Standby.....

Re: 1972 4x4 Short Bed Project "Seven-Deuce"

Ok here goes with the updates, I will try to do it in time order. I picked the truck up about 3 weeks ago from the body shop, 7/14/14. These are the pictures I have from that day. At this point all but the tailgate have been painted, sanded, buffed, and given a celebratory first washing.

Back in the neighborhood, and this time it's staying! I didn't like walking into an empty garage every day.

Ahh, that's better.

Re: 1972 4x4 Short Bed Project "Seven-Deuce"

Next up was finishing the front end. I had to run the front light harness, install lights and lenses, and front bumper. I did the headlight relay upgrade that everyone should do as per this forum, and went with sylvania silverstar headlights. Haven't had it out at night, but they seem plenty bright. Shortly after that was wrapped up I contacted safelite to come put in the windshield. They came a week later with a windshield that had two 1" imperfections in it. Try again next week. 2nd try was the charm and it went in without much trouble. Took about an hour of slapping the glass and working the rubber in. I think a big help was that I decided to forego the stainless trim that a custom deluxe should have around the windshield. The upper corners on the inside aren't laying perfectly flat but I'm told they will calm down with time. Also at this time the CR Laurence 4-panel slider was put in. I ordered it with light tint and am very happy with it. Pics:

Ok back to work for now... Will upload another set when I get home later. Hope you like them!

Re: 1972 4x4 Short Bed Project "Seven-Deuce"

This will be the last post bringing the thread up to speed. On Saturday I brought the truck up to the local Mineke muffler shop to have the exhaust installed. There is a guy that only comes in on Saturdays and he is the exclusive custom exhaust man. He did a hell of a job. The truck was on the lift from 10am until about 530pm. I went with true dual Flowmaster 50 series delta flow mufflers and 2.5" pipe all the way from the manifolds back. I also had him weld in an H-pipe just before the mufflers. I made the appointment a few days in advance, and it was raining like the hammers of hell Saturday morning when I had to bring it in. It broke my heart but oh well I guess "first ride in the rain" can get crossed off the list. I wasn't sure how to exit the pipes, so I went with the conventional exit behind the rear tire. I am very happy with the look and sound of it. I will try to attach a cell phone video of it idling. (I know, I know, I didn't rev it up).

Last things left are the wood in the bed, and still waiting on the tailgate to be finished. Why is it so common for people In the auto body trade to never finish things on time?

1972 K10 idle sound - Flowmaster 50 series - YouTube
That was a little louder than i expected for 50 series, guess i'll go with 70 series..

My question is does it resonate into the cab when driving?

Your truck is lookin sweet!

Thanks. I haven't really had it out for a ride yet to listen to how everything sounds. I only have 2 bolts in the bed for now until I get the wood put in, so i'm a little scared to take it down the road. In that video I believe the choke was on, so it may sound a little louder than a normal idle. I would say the sound of 50 series is perfect, it really doesn't get loud when you rev it. I guess we will see once I can get it out for a good ride.

Thanks, I await more updates. I currently have some knockoff 40's dumping out in front of the rear tires, its so loud it comes back into the cab, my other truck has Magnaflows and dumps out the back and it sounds real nice but resonates into the cab of that truck so bad it had done some damage to my already bad hearing.

4. You can see in these the rims and tires all done. Forgot to get pics of them off the truck, but they are 15x8 Steel wheels with 33x10.5 BFG's They look awesome in person. Thanks to Eric (Too Much Stuff) and Frank (PICKMUP) for the rims and caps.

Just confirming....Those are 33"s and not 31's? I love the look of yours, and want that same look, but I am looking online and other 67-72's I am seeing with 33 X 10.5 X15 look like the tires are bigger. Thanks!

Yes they are 33x10.5 R15. The truck has a 2.5" lift so that's why they might look a little smaller than a stock truck.

I will get some pics tomorrow after work when I'm at the shop. The fuel filler will be in the bed floor, but I haven't had time to put the wood in yet. The tailgate is painted, and should be hung on the truck tomorrow.

Re: 1972 4x4 Short Bed Project "Seven-Deuce"

Hey looks amazing!!! I am in the process of doing a 72 GMC Shortbed 4x4 right now, I am working no the suspension and your truck has the exact lift I am looking for. I'm sure this has been asked before but what exactly did you do to the suspension to get that lift? I saw you said it is a 2.5" lift, did you use aftermarket leafs? front? rear? I'm about to order some parts to get mine together and this is exactly what I want. Any info would be greatly appreciated.
