Steering gear box moves
Trying to figure out my dead space in my steering, found the gearbox is moving. I see the bolt that holds it to the frame moves. Is this considered a cracked frame or just worn bolt issue, if so , how can i fix it. I have a viedo of it. Look at about the 11 second mark and
you will see the bolt move. http://youtu.be/qTORTEORsKw

Re: Steering gear box moves
The bolts are no doubt loose but you really need to take a close look for a cracked frame. 90% of the time when I see that happening and remove the gearbox the frame is broken or cracking.

Re: Steering gear box moves
bolts are tight as I can get them, they seem to have the hole worn or maybe the bolts need to be replaced. I checked the back side of the frame, if its broke its not visible.

Re: Steering gear box moves
I haven't heard or read that the bolts may ware out on the gear box, is this a possibility?

Re: Steering gear box moves
When they start moving around they wobble the hole out and also mess up the threads so its not uncommon that they don't tighten up. I never just tighten up the bolts its not worth risking lives over. Trust me. Bite the bullet and take the bolts out. Swing the gearbox away enough to get a good look (tis means uncoupling the rag joint as well) and replace all the hardware holding the box to the frame. If the holes are very distorted you will need to address that or it will keep happening.
