Origional gas tank?

Hey guys, I am seriously considering the swap. I want to keep my truck as original as possible. Can I use the the original fuel tank with the swap? Are there any issues here? Thanks. P.S. My truck has a wood bed and Don't want to do a fuel cell for aesthetic reasons.

It'll be loud/annoying with either a fuel pump in the cab inside the tank or even having the pump be directly underneath the floorboards on the frame rail I would think.

Too loud.... well most think [so I've heard].... most eventually swap to the rear mounted tank with either a rear mounted pump or an rear in-tank pump... (best of both worlds).

Most figure once you go LS swap.... originality is kinda

Rear mounted +1 but leave the tank mounts in the cab and you can always go back to OEM.

I did the rear tank for both baffles/quietness and safety but left my in-cab tank mounts alone and intact. Figure if they take the LS swap out... they can take the rear mounted tank out too.

Rear mounted tank with in-tank Aeromotive Stealth 340 - Should be quiet enough to not get annoyed.

Dec010974 I believe is running a carb'd LQ4 setup and his fuel pressures may be ALOT lower than a normal LS-fuel-rail. (Holley Blue = 9 PSI @ 110 GPH)

Alot quieter moving the fuel at such a lower PSI than 60+ PSI for a EFI swap.

Not quite sure if your being a smart *** or?

Just figured I'd keep the O.P. aware that it can be done but when you stated you implemented it without issue to the original tank... you did not mention you were a simplified low PSI and quieter carb fueling setup.

VERY pertinent to the discussion at hand.

Thanks for the compliment of doing my homework in full vs. only telling half the story like some people around here

thanks guys, the truck is a 72, yes it has a wood bed and it is a short bed, with leafs too.

i wouldn't mind using the original tank, but if i cant, i would like to keep it in place (for looks) and then do a under the bed tank. it will be a fuel injected application, so i will be using a high pressure fuel pump.

i guess i will see how loud it is.

Ive done it a couple of times and you can barely hear the pump on my green truck, its a Walbro mounted under the cab. Its quiet enough that you dont hear it at all when the engine is running, and I have quiet exhaust. The kind of pump I think plays a factor in noise, knock off Walbro pumps are noisier. The two builds in my sig show both ways I did it and they are both EFI.

Wow. Unbelievable. 66lsx, you have no clue. I wasn't being a smart ass. I just saying that you pay attention to detail. It was actually a joke. Also thanks for giving him a lil more info on my setup. We don't need to cast stones. No harm was intended. Most of us that modify, alter, or jerry rig things on our trucks are smart or thinkers, so Thanks for the compliment. Just to throw it out there, I am willing to give anyone, as much info as I can, on any mods I make on my LSx swaps. My number has even been posted in threads. I would have posted pics but it's hard for me to do so using my iPad. In my first post, on this thread, I offered to send pics of the mods, to show Mitchell72, exactly what I did. The pics are in my cell phone as I type. Please don't call me a smart ass. You owe me an apology. That's an insult to me and everyone that attempts to help fellow LSx swappers. Here are the pics mitchell72. I hope these help. The blue cap is a block off I use for my lsx carbureted swap. It is connected to an AN adapter. the fuel sending unit was tapped and fitted for the adapter(fuel return). The feed line on the sending unit uses a threaded AN Adapter. In the last pic, the black AN fittng will be used, when I convert back to FI. I hope this helps.

On my '72, I stuffed a Walbro 255 gph in tank pump (made for a '94-'97 Miata, of all things) into the stock in cab tank. Just slid the sock off and put a hose on the end of the pick-up tube. Went through a couple of ideas trying to figure out how to seal the wires best before settling for grommets and bolts, which worked pretty well. I used the vapor line as a return.

Now that it's all sorted, the main drawback is that it's loud. Some sort of insulation on the outside of the tank would probably help. Putting an external pump under the cab may work better.

Also, be sure to use EFI rated hose on all high pressure lines.
