Headers with crossmember type motor mounts

Dear all I know this is a perennial question but I need some answers. I have a 58 Apache with the original steering box and a new crate 350/290 and I want to replace my ram horns with headers. I understand I need to use block hugger type headers to clear the steering box. I see there are lots of blockhuggers from various manufacturers but most have a disclaimer that they won't fit with the side-type (tubular crossmember) motor mounts, which I do have. Can anyone recommend a set of headers that will work for me? Anyone else have this setup, sbc with original steering box and side mounts and headers? It seems a company named Sanderson might make something that may work but not sure. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Mark

Re: Headers with crossmember type motor mounts

I used a set of Hedman headers from a 73-87 Chevy truck. Worked without any modification at all. I have a 1984 305 SBC in a 59 stepside with original steering. Not sure what you mean by the tubular crossmember though. I have the original bellhousing style rear mounts. I can't see how the front mounts could ever come into play. I'll take some pics later to show how it looks.

Re: Headers with crossmember type motor mounts

Thanks Agnes, I guess the type of motor mounts affects the fit of the headers. On a sbc you can either use side mounts or front mounts. I guess if you have the side mounts you have less choices. Wish I would have used the front mounts off the crossmember and I wouldn't have these fitment issues

I'd get a set of 2 1/2 ramhorns. I think they flow just as well as block hugger headers do.
You can get repros on ebay for cheap. It's what I did.

They have them in chrome too.

Here's mine:
