need help with deluxe trim

i'm putting aftermarket trim on my 1957 big back window truck and when i push the clips in the holes it dents the stainless trim , there is no extra bondo paint etc. and the clips go right it without forceing them but it dents any help? thanks

I cut up one of those cheap three ring folders from DOLLAR STORE and pushed strips of the plastic in between the clips and the CHEAP stainless and press gently!

All newer vehicles trim is held on with 3M VHB tape. You can get it in many width's and thicknesses.

I cut plastic shims and bonded them to the molding and then boned the moldings to the truck.
