On the drivers side is the outside wall and on the other side would be my bros 64 Valiant Convertible. Maybe Garage Squad would come out and finish that thing so it can get out of the garage.

I pulled the clutch last night and was suprized it wasn't burned up more. It is definatly worn out. The truck is up on Jack Stands and then we have an earthquake but was up in the Napa area and it was a 6.0. Woke me up at 3:21 this am. I haven't looked in the garage yet, maybe I should go do that...

Re: What did you do to your truck today part II.

installed the clutch today. The bell housing had to come off but would not come out of the truck. It moved back enough for me to get the disc and pressure plate in. Now I can pull small hills in 3rd gear...

Awesome!

BTW, the bellhousing will come out if you turn it the right way. Some guys also remove the clutch with it still in place.

I removed the clutch with it still in place and there was no way I was going to get it back in that way.

Yeah, I also just take the bellhousing off to mess with the clutch. Some are really hell-bent about leaving it on there, though.

Stared at pictures of parts that are accumulating and the truck, I'll hopefully be home this week to meet the truck in person for the first time and dig into it.

Re: What did you do to your truck today part II.

I got Hosed A! Took in radiator for leakage. Been since 98 that my guy had seen it out of the truck. New hoses, actually had the one that is suppose to be in there. New T-stat, 180. Took longer to clean the mess than to install. This is the original 283 V8 radiator which is a V flow and not the cross flow. Heavy and more cooling.

Re: What did you do to your truck today part II.

Haven't posted on here in a minute. Sorry fellas but Navy engineer life has taken its toll on me lately so here's my new addition. Bought it for 25 bucks off CL, and had to chop it down to my bed size. Here's before and after. Not bad for not touching a welder in 4 years. Still have to chop it again to fit the bed rails and grind welds and then finish it in classic white.

Re: What did you do to your truck today part II.

Flipped the cab over onto pallets so I can remove the undercoating with my needle scaler. I'll have the cab back on the frame by the end of September (I hope).

Re: What did you do to your truck today part II.

Another good tip for removing undercoating is to use a small propane torch apply very little heat and using a putty knife it will easily scrape right off. I did this lying under a 62 Pontiac still on the frame and with full interior in it. I was amazed how easy and fast it was to remove the undercoating. I was even using the cheap throw away plastic putty knifes because I didn't want to scratch the factory red lead primer.

I'm gonna try your method tonight. A wire wheel just smears it around when it heats up from the friction. YouTube methods like dry ice and the oscillating saw are not practical for me. I need to cut a few mm off the ends of needle scaler needles so they have a good cutting edge again. They have become a bit dull from use. Thanks for the tip.

I have used easy off oven cleaner. let it sit over night and then scrape it off. work pretty good. dosent get all of it but will get a lot. for some reason easy off is the brand to use.

Re: What did you do to your truck today part II.

I drove it down to San Jose to pick up a piece of funiture. I have been having trouble with it getting hot on the freeway so I thought I would change the thermostat. The one that was in there was sticky so I replaced it with a 160º thermostat and I have a feeling that is just to cold and won't close when the water is hot so the radiator can cool it down. The first picture shows what the temp is like when it is hot outside and the other is when I came back into cooler weather. The truck cools down alot. It was probably 80º in San Jose and about 60º in SF.
