Front Wheel Well lights. Anyone seen these before?
Greeting family. New proud owner here of a 72 shortbed cheyenne. Been fiddling with minor cosmetic stuff recently. Discovered two green front wheel well lights which appear to be original; they have mounting brackets and wiring boots/connectors which look as old as the truck itself. Anyone know what these are called or where i can get replacement bulbs? One works, one doesnt. They only come on with the headlights, and arent wired into the turn signals. They are pretty heavily corroded, so i'd like to only clean them if i have to. (Sorry for the one pic. I cant seem to upload multiples. Such a rookie...)

Welcome to the board and congrats on the new truck! Those are absolutely not original. How far can you throw them? They need to be as far from that truck as possible Ha. Just kidding, but we'd love to see some pics of your new truck!

Re: Front Wheel Well lights. Anyone seen these before?
Welcome! They might be nearly as old as the truck but as noted above, definitely not original factory equipment. I would remove them and all associated wiring & brackets. Congrats on your new truck -- how about a few more pics?

Re: Front Wheel Well lights. Anyone seen these before?
Not at all factory but I do remember in the early 70's it was not unusual to see a set of colored fender well lights on some of the street cruisers locally. Usually hooked up to shine when the park lights were on. Generally were either white or sometimes a painted lens to match the cars body color. Made a pretty good effect on a good sounding thumpy mucscle car, ie. Chevelle, Cuda, 'Stang, Camaro, etc. as it cruised thru the local burger joint.

Re: Front Wheel Well lights. Anyone seen these before?
when we were in high school in 1971 my buddy had wheel well lights on his 62 buick skylark...HE thought they looked cool....so they've probably been on the truck for 40 years and rusty enough to appear original

Re: Front Wheel Well lights. Anyone seen these before?
Thanks everyone for the response! I'll post some more photos soon!
I went ahead and removed the lights & brackets. I'm finding that I tend to lean towards the "purest" side. One of my latest dilemmas is that the SPID says it had a bench seat, but one of the earlier owners put some bucket seats (original style) with a center console. Would any of you go back to a bench if you already had buckets? Thoughts? Kindly, Phil |

Re: Front Wheel Well lights. Anyone seen these before?
if they're correct buckets, that just might be one that most of us would say is an acceptable upgrade... (i.e. KEEP THOSE PUPPIES!)

Re: Front Wheel Well lights. Anyone seen these before?
Hey everyone, I've posted photos of the truck over on the Photo thread found here:
http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...postcount=3374 SPID shows the truck came with a plaid bench. Should I return the interior to factory specs? |

Re: Front Wheel Well lights. Anyone seen these before?
I would keep those buckets, that truck is SHARP. Glad you ditched the lights though.

Re: Front Wheel Well lights. Anyone seen these before?
I plan to upgrade to buckets if the opportunity presents itself, so my vote would be to keep them in your truck. Its a very nice looking truck thats already had a lot of time and effort converting from small block to big block so its already modified. All very nice upgrades in my opinion.

Re: Front Wheel Well lights. Anyone seen these before?
Generally speaking, any color of light (exception headlights) has to be red or amber, for legality sake.
The BS neon lights under cars got attention from law enforcement folks when they came out years ago. Some even w/ blue dots in tail lights, were not allowed to pass inspection. I can't imagine what you've got is original, I sure wouldn't use them. I attract enough attention from law enforcement enthusiasts just by driving by them, I have no interest in drawing them near me for another reason... |

Re: Front Wheel Well lights. Anyone seen these before?
Nice truck you have.
Since the paint and interior have both been changed I would keep the buckets... The 'Highlander' seat on your SPID would have had white door panels and visors plus the vinyl that's on the seat is also white, your current set up looks very nice. MOD
