front end swap

I apologize if thie pics dont show up. Im swapping the front cross member from a 1976 c-20 to a 1966 c-20. there is a differance between the idler arms 1st pic is of the 66 and the 2nd pic is of the 76. Just wondering if I should use the 76 assembly and drill holes in the frame or use the 66 idler arm, I dont know if it will bolt up or not.

Re: front end swap

When I did the swap in my 65 I made a template off the 83 frame and put it on the 65. Clamped the idler to the template and drilled right through it.

Re: front end swap

I always recommend using the later model steering linkage including the idler arm. The way PGSigns said works well. You can also wait until you get the steering box mounted and then just make sure the draglink is parallel to the crossmember. On other words, the same distance forward of the crossmember as well as below the frame, on both the drivers and passenger sides.
