Big block 454 4x4 nv4500 mechanical clutch linkage
Working on a 1964 K20 4x4. Trying to set up my clutch linkage from the frame to the block. Its a nv4500 and a big block 454ci with mechanical linkage. Does anyone have some ideas or pictures of a similar set up so I can get the ball rolling? Thanks!

Re: Big block 454 4x4 nv4500 mechanical clutch linkage
The NV4500's did not come from the factory with a mechanical clutch linkage, they were all hydraulic. If you want to run a mechanical clutch linkage, Advance adapters sells a manual clutch bellhousing for the NV4500. I have looked at fabricating a mechanical clutch linkage for a manual trans truck with a big block, but it looks like a huge PITA to me. Plus not everyone uses the same motor mounts, or installs them in the same location, when converting to a big block. Personally, with a big block, I would just convert the truck to a hydraulic clutch, it will be much easier. That is what I plan on doing with the 2 trucks of mine that I will be installing a NV4500. I sell a hydraulic clutch conversion, if you are interested.

Thanks for the reply. I already have the adv adap mech bell housing. I May be interested in your hydraulic conversion. Do you have any pictures of it? ideally I would like to figure out how to do the mechanical set up and make it look sanitary but I'm out of ideas. Also is this a picture of your project?
Thanks! |

Kinda doing the same thing...BBC, 4500, 205 under a 58. I'm gonna run a hydraulic set-up...made a bracket to hold the slave where I wanted it. Pretty straight forward this way.
Drive train in chassis...

Re: Big block 454 4x4 nv4500 mechanical clutch linkage
Just guessing, but I'd locate the engine and trans in the frame, then locate the Z-bar vased on where the ball stud is in the engine.
From there, work out the rod from the Z-bar to the clutch fork, and to the rod coming from the clutch pedal. I'm working on an NV4500/NP205 combo for my 72. I parted a Suburban to get the 205, AA bellhousing, hydraulic master and slave, etc. |

Re: Big block 454 4x4 nv4500 mechanical clutch linkage
I don't have any pics of the '63-'66 conversion parts, but it is basically the same as what I sell for the '60-'62's. There are just a couple modifications to it to fit the '63-'66 better.
The biggest issue you will have with a mechanical clutch linkage and a big block, is making it work with your headers/manifolds. No that is not a pic of my project, that is another members project. Quote:

Re: Big block 454 4x4 nv4500 mechanical clutch linkage
After seeing these pictures I have been talked into the hydraulic set up. Slave bracket looks great along with the whole project. Interested in making another slave bracket??

Captainfab, Looks like I will need to order a booster bracket kit from you with the clutch master tab . Looks great. Thanks to all for the info and the pics are always a plus.
