heater hose question

What is the correvt way for the heater hoses to run on a non a/c 72?? He's got the top hose coming out of the heater core going to the intake and the bottom going to the water pump. We've seen them put on both ways. Does it make a difference?? Thanks

being two different size hoses........you should be able to tell where they go. Unless they changed the fittings for some reason.

I think it makes difference, for the correct cooling at least. Like Blue Beard said, they are different sizes so that should help. I thought the only choice was if the water pump had both fittings, you could eliminate it running into the intake... I may be wrong.

Onless you are doing a 100% resto, then it does not matter. Hot watter goes in, the fan blows air through it, and not so hot water comes out.

The one on the water pump would be the supply and the one on the intake would be the return im thinking*** because the water pump one is on top of it wich would be after the vein and the intake port would be before it wich should be suction . Ive always seen them with the 3/4 hose on the water pump and the 5/8 on the intake or the radiator

Here is the official and right way. You want the 5/8" inlet connection at the bottom and the 3/4 outlet connection at the top. Anything different means you have your heater core in upside down. Your hottest water will be at the thermostat therefore the nipple next to it is where you would connect the 5/8" hose. The 3/4" return line will go 1 of 2 places. The first is the radiator. Trucks with automatics had a return line right to the radiator. It is a hard radiator to find as a replacement, so many have been changed out to the 2nd location. That location is the waterpump where it is recirculated through the engine.
