My new 68 Stepper - all original

Thought I would share my good news. My 1970 CST10 LWB just got a brother. It's a 1968 SWB stepper. 6 cylinder, 3 on the tree. All original and never molested. Even has original paint. I got all maintenance records dating back to the purchase date of 4-11-68. Guess what. The records indicate that the truck is a true 21,264 miles truck. Even got the protecto plate and all.

What a great find! Where has that girl been hiding all these years? I'll bet there's a great ''rest of the story'' that goes with that. I mean in less you killed somebody for it then I don't need to know. lol

Re: My new 68 Stepper - all original

The paint is much too nice. You need to sand it some to give it that distressed look that's so popular today. While you're at it chop the top a couple inches, put a fleetside bed on it, bag it, and some 20" wheels.

Awesome truck! Are you sure it's ALL original? Those tires are questionable . Just kidding.

Re: My new 68 Stepper - all original

Lol. Thanks guys. I plan on preserving it as it is. Story on the truck is that the original owner "Owen" bought it on 04/11/1968 from a dealership (Dickens Chevrolet) in bastrop, la. He only lived about 1 mile from his work and only used it to go back and forth unless he needed to haul something. When he passed away in the 90's his wife kept the truck around to make it appear that a man still lived at home. When she passed in the early 2000's their nephew inherited the truck. Sometime around 2004 from the paperwork. I purchased it from him. The trucks whole life it has been under a cover or shed.

It really is neat having all of the maintenance records and the history of the truck. It even has the door oil change stickers dating back to 70's and 80's with next oil change milage. All of the registration papers at each renewal had the milage and date written on them. I think that it is hard to prove actual milage but with the documentation and maintenance records it's hard to prove it's not the actual miles too.

All factory grease pencil markings are still on the firewall, under the cab and on cross members.

Even more interesting is that my buddy who drove me over to pick it up was the one who said it looked like an "Owen" name truck to him. When he said that I only knew the original owner as "my uncle" it wasn't until later today when I realized that the original owners name was Owen.

Kinda freaky huh.

That's a good story. Not only do you have a cool truck but you have a good story to go with it too.

Yes, knowing the history of the truck is very nice. It's kinda like the real Owen lives on each time I tell it.

That might be the nicest original example I have ever seen, wow what a great pickup! When you hear someone say "survivor" that's what they are talking about right there.

Great find man! I love stepsides and in my mind, the spare tire belongs on the side where one can actually get to it without getting down onto the ground.

I wouldn't change a thing either. 3 on the tree is a great anti theft device and it's just fun to drive and be different.
