Overhaulin Has a 1967 Truck!

For anyone that has the Velocity channel, the show called Overhaulin features a 1967 Chevy pickup. Should be a GREAT SHOW!
Comes on at 8pm EST

He will mess it up somehow...
I'll bet money on rally stripes...I stopped watching the show because of his hideous paint schemes.

theres not enough working on cars on that show. lots of talking about how the person "deserves" something. Lots of stealing the car, talking to friends and relatives, blah blah.

type of automotive show Oprah would do. And it really comes off as corny. And personally I don't care how stifled a project is due to time, money, health etc.

I'd rather wait then hand it over to some fools who pretend to have stolen my ride and doing whatever they want to it.

And then find out they replaced your numbers matching engine with a rebuilt crate motor...

And all the Foose worship, gag! We need a vomit emoticon!

Well he IS the best in the Hot Rodding business. I believe he has the most Oakland Roadster show wins.

He also seems like a genuine guy.

The worship may be over the top but at least I don't feel it fake. The guy is really talented!

Small window stepside. Nice truck when it was finished.

Yes, it does have rally stripes. Great looking paintjob....like all of them! It's so easy to sit behind a keyboard and tear down someone else's work. it's a lot tougher to show your own . Let's see yours!

Well since you've called me out here's mine:

It's a project and I'm leaving it in stock paint, but I would never ever put rally stripes on something that didn't originally come with them and I don't think that they fit our trucks body shape. But that's just my opinion.

And just so you know, I'm familiar with how good paint looks, here's my T/A:

Now I'll address Foose, I don't dislike the guy but I do think that he flies through some of these builds without listening to the people.
What I heard on the show was how much the owner (and his father) liked the FACTORY color and was going to repaint it in that color, so what does Chip pick?

Is he talented, yes
I've heard many many stories of people who have met him and how nice he is in person.

I'm just not sure that the show shows his best work...

Just one mans opinion...

Re: Overhaulin Has a 1967 Truck!

Is it the episode from last year or a new one? I don't really watch much because they always have a way of screwing up classics. They are classics because of the way they were built in the day, not with ugly 20" Foose wheels and air bags making them sit an inch off of the ground. No linger a classic after that

I didn't say "post pics of what you own" or "post pics of somebody else's work" I said post your work! Show us something you have done.

My two points are really simple. We are all different and we like different things about cars and trucks. You don't have to build your truck like someone else did to appreciate nice work. The other is a little tougher to swallow. If you didn't build it and paint it , it isn't YOURS. It is somebody else's. I don't use my wallet to build my toys. I use my hands and because I do , I know what it takes do get it right. For that reason, I don't criticize someone else's work just because I might not do it that way. Here's a couple of pics of what's in my toybox. I didn't build the Corvette or the bike, but the truck and the racer are all mine! No one but me turned a wrench, or sprayed a drop of paint or stitched one bit of their leather interiors. You probably won't like the paint...but I do!

Re: Overhaulin Has a 1967 Truck!

Well considering I'm in a wheelchair something as large as my car or a truck painting no, but anything mechanical that I could do I did.

Now in a smaller scale I restore snowmobiles to which I work on every rivet and screw...

Fitz I think you misinterpreted my meaning, which was that he 'checks out' on some of the TV builds...

btw your truck, bike and car are great builds and I have no problem with any of them.
If we all liked the same thing life would be pretty fricking boring!

First off Ive always admired your work. Not always something I would do, but you are very good at everything Ive seen.

But, if I pay for work done its mine. I cant build and engine or a lot of other things, but in the end I do what I can and end up putting most of it together. Its cool you can do the whole nine yards, but you sound like you are putting people down that don't have your skills.

There are a ton of things I can do that aren't car related that people pay me to do because they cant. That doesn't make their stuff mine. It is what makes the world go round though. If everyone could do every thing we wouldn't have much of an economy.

Yeah, he's probably the best, but it's a free country and I'm free to gag after hearing too many times how good Foose is.

Don't forget, the show turned down Underhaulin and took care of Charlie Sheen's friend's car. They take on some noble causes, and some not so noble. But again, it's a free country and it's their show they can do what they want but I doubt I'm the only one who has lost interest in watching 50% Keystone Kops, 15% Foose worship, 10% silly deadline drama and 25% restoration. But if they are still on the air, they obviously still have enough audience for the time being. It has had a long run, but for me it's gotten stale.

Not enough time on the actual work, and the gimmicks are SO repetitive; I've lost interest and don't watch it anymore.

For sure!

There is some amount of drama that needs to go with these shows to keep them on the air. I have met Chip and he is a genuine guy. He is just doing what it takes to stay on the air. He had all the respect of the Hot Rod community before the show, and he will have it after the show.

Unfortunately there is no TV show that will be a replacement for doing it yourself in the garage. For those of us that "live" the hobby the only satisfaction will come from actually doing it.

I don't even watch these shows, but I know how they work. No need to hate on them.

Well said. If you dig deep enough on anyone's car/truck you can find something that would go against the "if you didn't build it and paint it it isn't yours".

Everyone is on a different level, some because of talent, time, finances, etc.

I disagree: I feel you can "live" the hobby and still get satisfaction from watching others and learning.

And, I'm free to hate them IF I choose. I used to watch the show, I only choose not to watch now and feel free to express why.

Well said. We all come equipped from the factory with different skills and abilities, but all those skills and abilities despite being vastly different from one person to another add up the the same equal mass.

We do what we can, and nobody is better than anybody else I don't care what you do or what you own. You can't beat happiness.

Re: Overhaulin Has a 1967 Truck!

I agree all the foose worship and "the foose fade" is a little to much.. on the other hand the company I used to work for, has a manager that has been on several episodes and he said Chip was a real nice guy.

Re: Overhaulin Has a 1967 Truck!

I'm lost on the whole Foose worship and fad thing. Some people like his work, and don't mind declaring it. Some people don't, and don't mind declaring it. Foose has a style, and it's not his fault others appreciate it. Liking or disliking Foose is no different than a sports team, President, or car manufacturer. There is a whole lot of "I don't like him..." but not a whole lot of logical reasons why. Not liking a person, because you don't share their taste in style, is an odd reason to dislike them. It's okay to have an opinion, but to back it up with fallacious rhetoric defeats the purpose of stating your opinion.

I heard some say they didn't like his paint schemes, but heard not even one say they didn't like him.

Heard a lot of "he's a nice guy", and "he probably is the best", and me plus a couple others think that there is too much time spent lauding his obvious talent, and some me included who think they spend to much time on things other than the restoration part of the show.

The thread is, after all, about a 67 chevy p/u. Well, about 25% of the show was about the pickup, hence the rub.

OK, speaking for myself, I didn't need to say "gag" or use the vomit emoticon. Didn't mean to offend you or anyone else, but others probably laughed.

Me, I'd give away all 4 of my crappy looking pickups and my crappy el camino to have that truck I don't care how many stripes or if the wheels don't suit me, and really, I'd bet my wife's purse collection everyone who didn't like his paint jobs would still give love to own one of his creations.

See, now you got me worshiping him. Doh!

I probably did misinterpret your post at 4 am. I do like the sled! Broke my left leg on one 10 years ago and then got smart, moved to a warm climate and took up motorcycles. Much safer! As you say if we weren't a bit different life would be really boring.
