Gauges
What holds the gauges in on my 49? There's a bracket that comes with the Dolphin gauges but that only holds the gauge to the alloy spacer it won't stop them from falling inwards. Thanks

I just pulled the gauges out of my '48. There is 4 nuts evenly spaced on each gauge that will need to be removed. It's a little tricky removing the inner 4 of the 8 nuts between both gauges. The wiper motor, dash brace, and steering column are all in the same space. I'm not sure how the Dolphin gauges are held in the dash, might have to fab a few tabs to hold the in place.

Trim ring on the outside.....4 tabs on the inside that slide over studs and nuts

Remove the old gauges as stated above. There are four nuts that hold them onto the dash. You have to remove the gauge pods from each shell. There is a trim ring that is crimped over the lip of the shell. VERY carefully bend the four tabs up(it is readily apparent when looking at back of gauge/shell) and separate the parts. To keep the Dolphin gauges secured in the shell the trim ring has to be re-attached over the front of new gauges and the little tabs bent back over. The shells have to be cut in the back at the 3 O'clock and 9 O'clock positions so that the bracket you mentioned can be attached to the gauges. This draws the gauges in tight. I'll see if I can get a camera behind the dash for some pics and will post them up. It can/will be a bee-eye-itch of a job. Good luck

Here are a few pics I promised. The little tabs that hold the bezel/trim ring that secures the gauge in the shell are at 12,3,6& 9 on the clock dial.(I think). That ring has to come off and placed over the dolphin gauges then re-attached to the shell. The new bracket is then put on the gauge and tightened up. Making it all one unit again.
