Re: Project Lemon Drop: anything but stock!
Its been to cold to do any fiber glassing (Yes I know for those of you who live where it snows will say Cold and California don't match) So I assembled my new steering wheel, ready for installation once the adapter arrives. Sun expected tomorrow, so maybe I'll get some fiber glassing done.

Re: Project Lemon Drop: anything but stock!
Good.............I put on the steering wheel, but now the horn doesn't work, I have to check the fuse. I did some work on the door panels, specifically the arm rests. I think I posted a previous picture of them. I covered them with fiberglass and then evened them out with body filler. Then hours of sanding the more body filler. They're nice and smooth now, but need a little grinding so the inner door latch clears the arm rest. I'm happy with the way the turned out, but haven't decided if I will paint them or have them covered with vinyl. I'm leaning more towards covering them with vinyl. I need to buy an amp before I start on the behind the seat stereo, amp, subwoofer box.
Sorry I don't have any pictures I was going to buy my bed wood kit, but the oven/microwave combo unit in the house needed to be replaced, which put a big hole in the wallet.

Re: Project Lemon Drop: anything but stock!
****UPDATE ALERT****
I meet up with Joe Pass again at his place and we worked on a few things (I mostly watched). On Day One we couldn’t do a lot, because someone forgot the load up the truck with the box of parts. (Guess who that was????????). So we got the electric windows working (turned out to be a fuse) and figured out why the horns weren’t working. After I changed my steering wheel the horns stopped working. One of the two horns broke and the other one was blowing the fuse. On Day Two, Joe engineered a bracket to attach the transmission cooler to the front of the radiator. We ran steel braided lines with fittings from it to the transmission. He cut two holes in the lower valance to run the braided hose through. I noticed that before the trans cooler was install the trans temp ran about 180 with trans cooler it ran about 140 and that was while driving in commute traffic. I ordered a couple of billet hose separators to attach the braided lines to the frame next to the inner fender tub. We changed the carburetor to fuel pump fuel line and moved the fuel pressure gauge. We switched the brake booster line to steel braided with fitting. Joe added an overflow tank to the radiator and came up with a great location to put it. He attached it to the powder coated steel fan shroud. Check out the cool 90 degree rubber fitting off the radiator filler neck. We also changed to 700r4 trans dip stick with a shorter one, because it was interfering with the air cleaner I wanted to put on. Today I did a little more work on my door panels. The interior door handles were hitting the arm rest, which required a lot of sanding. Boy I really wish I could finish these things. While at Joe’s place, Dan reminded me that I have been working on them for over a year. I almost gave up on them today, but decided I finish up the changes that MAY make them fit and then see how things go. I install the ceramic coated batwing air cleaner. The new horns I ordered arrived the other day and so I put them in, I love the sound of the Classic GM Horn. I’m sure I’m forgetting something, but I don’t want to overwhelm you with the small progress that has been made. Except that I almost order the bed wood kit today. I’ll want a bit longer for that. Thanks again for all your help Joe.

Sorry, I forgot about it. I'm not sure if I like the ceramic coating. I may have to chrome it.

Re: Project Lemon Drop: anything but stock!
I was doing some more work on my door panels, specifically the speaker pods. Everything is pretty close to being done and ready for rapping with vinyl or leather. I was wondering if I should have the speaker pods, sprayed with bed liner instead of rapping them, because of the potential contact between shoes and the speaker pod when climbing in and out.
So I'm turning to all of you for your opinion? which would you do?

Re: Project Lemon Drop: anything but stock!
I'd suggest wrapping them, your truck looks wayyyy too nice for the bedliner on the pods. Just my opinion.

Re: Project Lemon Drop: anything but stock!
Your truck is looking sweet! I glad to see you are still moving forward with it. I agree don't do the bed liner on the pods, it would look cheap. Use a good quality faux leather as it will look great and hold up better than real leather.
Also I like the ceramic coating on the cadi cleaner. Keep up the great work. I have a job right down the road at Sutter Novato off Roland. I'll have to find out your schedule and stop by (if I'm still allowed) Kevin LFD |

Re: Project Lemon Drop: anything but stock!
I was able to do some work over the weekend on the door cards. I finished the map pockets and painted them. They look good. I also decided what pattern would be sewn into the vinyl (horizontal lines see pic). I put all the pieces together and I was happy with the result. However something just didn't look right. The lines of the door cards have curves and bends, so the covers for the crossovers just didn't fit the style. So I changed them and I think they fit the style.

Re: Project Lemon Drop: anything but stock!
The curved covers have a better flow and transition IMO. How is the itching and scratching with all the fiberglass work? I've been doing some gauge housings for A-pillars and I just can't get past the itchy part. I like bondo dust and weld splatter any day!

Re: Project Lemon Drop: anything but stock!
I spent sometime today in the garage trying out an idea I had for attaching a radio to the dash with out cutting the dash. One of the ideas I had was to attach a lower dash valance with a tambour door to hide the head unit. I made a cardboard template and a box with tambour door. What do you think?
I don't think I like it! The head unit is 4 inches high, so in order to allow space for the tambour door the box had to be 6 inches high. I think the whole thing takes away from the original look of the dash and it is awfully close to the knees when sitting in the truck. I think putting the head unit in the glove box looks like a better and maybe an easier idea?

Re: Project Lemon Drop: anything but stock!
I agree on the knee space/ making the dash too thick. I would put it either in the glovebox or under the seats with remote control with remote sensor for it.

Re: Project Lemon Drop: anything but stock!
I removed the Vintage Air glove box liner and cut a template from plywood. After getting a good fit with the template, I used the FREE Craigslist List router table find to cut the plate in plastic. I was originally going to use plastic cement to glue the plate in place, but then decided that I may have to remove it to access things or upgrade. So I attached some support brackets to the linger and then attached screw clips to the brackets. I then attached the plate to the glove box liner. The plate could be a little bigger, cause there are gaps where the plate meets the glove box liner sides. Other than that I pleased with it, but not sure if it will make the final cut. We'll see.
