Heater core change after 44 years
Heater core started leaking on my c10 so I tackled it. I was amazed at how many leaves and trash I ran into.

Re: Heater core change after 44 years
Did you mesure the new core?I The one I got yesterday was about 1/2 to small. It did not cover the hole in the housing.Part man check it with the book and its a no go for size.

Re: Heater core change after 44 years
I had to shim the one I got from LMC, it too was too thin. If I had it to do over again I would have had my original factory Harrison unit resoldered.

Re: Heater core change after 44 years
I've been waiting for mine to go on my '67 GMC...since I bought it about 1 1/2 years ago I've had to replace the radiator and the water pump...I figure the heater core is next...so I bought a quick fix that will get me home in case it happens, which will allow me to connect the heater hoses together - I keep the fix in my glovebox:

Re: Heater core change after 44 years
Mice love to crawl in them through the firewall hole. I put some metal window screen in there to keep them and leaves/debris out. I ordered a new core through rock auto and it was high quality and just like Oem as far as I could tell. Now that its all clean and with the AC motor upgrade, it will blow objects off the dash when the defrosters are on!

Re: Heater core change after 44 years
I like the idea of the "in case it goes fix." I probably need to carry a set of clamps and the proper size connector too.
I'll have a look at mine when I'm ready to put the new radiator in. |

Re: Heater core change after 44 years
BAdpurple-Would you post where you got yours and possibly the part number?
I know there has been a lot of talk about them not fitting and you said yours fit perfect. Thanks! BBB |

Re: Heater core change after 44 years
Funny, I'm doing my heater core right now too and the junk I pulled out looked just like this but was worse.....it's also all down behind the blower motor and into the fender well. I opened the fresh air kick panel vent for the passenger side and stuck a skinny hose from my shop vac down in there....it was crazy how much junk had accumulated!
I'll have to post pics!!
