Police Pkg Chevy Tahoe 1998
Anyone framiliar with this or have any info on them. I've been looking at one ready to go to auction and wondered what the negatives might be......its already had the transmission replaced and it only has 50K on the clock!!!! Bye the way it is a two wheel drive model with I believe the 5.7 liter (pursuit option) motor thanks in advance...........theo goebel, seattle

If I were you, I would stay away from it, unless you got it rediculously cheap. I don't believe that there is anything special about that truck. Police vehicles get the piss ran out of them sometimes 24 hours a day if it is not assigned to one officer. I have been told that modern police interceptor packages are just simple mods, like dual exhaust, bigger throttle body, etc, oh and putting the plain wheels on.

I belive the tahoes have different brake package,IE bigger and harder to get parts(dealer only). also upgraded charging and cooling system, suspension mods I think but not sure the cam is different from production. many do not have the rear a/c heat units in them.
Call your local chevy parts they may be able to answer the qestions better, I think there is a few Chevy parts guys lurking around in her too. the drugs and needles you may find in the back seat under the seat bottom generally come as no extra charge..........BIG PLUS!!!!! LOL

The Police Tahoe has a L-31 5.7 255 HP engine with 330 FT LBS of torque. Top speed is 123MPH and has a unique plastic grille with single headlights. Also,
3.08 rear locking differential HD brakes-front disc rear drum HD suspension reinforced front crossmember P235/70r15 V rated tires 15x7 black steel wheel with chrome center cap engine oil cooler trans oil cooler power steering cooler daytime running lights off switch 140 amp alt aux battery terminal underhood AC wide open throttle cut-off (in computer) certified speedometer to 130 mph with gauges wiring provision-12 volt power supply wiring provision for roof lighting with on/off switch radio suppression bonding strips fuel pump with RFI filter wiring for headlamp flasher, speakers and grille lights switch for inoperative dome light Not all Tahoes used by Police depts were police packages. They were using them before the package became available.
