My '67 Door panel restoration

I've just finished restoring the door panels on my 67. They had been covered badly in the past in black vinyl by a previous owner. I have a red bench seat in their and later when the weather improves I have a new re carpet and kick panel carpets to go in and the dash will get a clean up too. This is what they looked like to start with:

This is what they looked like after the vinyl was stripped off, very wet and rusty. The holes in the door had not been sealed with anything and water was getting past the new but not very effective window seals.

Rattle can black gloss, this is the drivers door which is not in quite such good condition as the passengers. The weather was a little damp so the finish is poor, but hey it's going to get vinyl glued over it and the back will get a spray of anti-rust was before it goes back on so who's keeping score!

And the end product.... still got to glue the vinyl on the drivers side and cover all the holes in the doors with plastic and duct tape and sort out the strip of foam thats glued to the door on the drivers side as it's half gone (got a closed cell foam camping mat I'm going to cut up and use to replace it with. What do you all think. Looks better to me, at least you can see all the detail on the panel now. It's top quality vinyl, fire and mould resistant in Poppy red.

I did that to my door panels with black vinyl and it didn't hold to well, maybe the adhesive wasn't good enough or I should have done more preping to the door panel...The weather is what affects the adhesion of the glue to the surface...now I'm gonna buy velour and make velour covers for em....

I repainted the panels so that it would have a good sound surface to bond to. I also used proper spray upholstery adhesive which is a contact adhesive i.e. you spray both the panel and the fabric and wait for it to dry and then put the two together. I guess only time will tell how long it stays stuck!
